This is a redraw and expansion of a much older piece: https://www.deviantart.com/roidh/ar.....elds-515081139. With the newly finished kankir redesigns I decided to revisit one of the first images I did of them. Of course I couldn't help myself and ended up adding a whole background to it along with this particular kankir's spirit friend. I still need to give the two of them names which means actually finishing the northern kankir language, which I did actually start tinkering with again last night. Hopefully I won't give up again and actually at least get a working phonology so I can name the pair.

The original piece is still quite the impressive drawing, for sure. That said, the redesign for the Kankir is amazing.
Although its just a side-view, the expression on the Kankir's face seems quite different from the original. I wonder what is going through both of these characters' minds as they gaze out upon the mountains.

Thanks. I’m glad the landscape colors are working. That was one of those things I wrote before actually trying to visualize it and so there’s been a lot of tinkering to try and get it somewhat natural and not too strange. It isn’t as red as I initially imagined, but I think it works better like this. Kind of gives a feeling of perpetual autumn. At least until winter comes and the land becomes blanketed in snow.
Thanks. I think that is a pretty apt way of describing the area. It is definitely rough, but more so due to bad weather and the mountainous terrain. The winters are especially snowy and avalanches are quite common. The summer time is actually quite pleasant and mild though.
I think the ability to swap between two and four legs is one of my favorite parts about them and was one of the first things I wrote into their design. I had an image drawn for the ref sheet of them in a quadrupedal stance, but it actually looked a little awkward. I think I actually need to shrink their legs a bit on the images I did for that, but by the time I realized it, I didn't want to redraw all of them.

Yeah, I think it's possible to set them up that way. I mostly need to shrink their legs so it matches the length of their arms (which was mostly a mistake on my part) and then probably round of their bodies. I think it's easier to do with complete fantasy species rather than a full anthro as you discovered, but I have the same problem with Rhelki and Kaj trying to get their bodies setup for both sets of motion.
Thanks. I've spent a lot of time trying to build my background skills up to this and I think it's finally getting to where I want it. The clouds were actually a final unplanned addition. The sky just seemed rather boring without them. They are something I've had trouble with in the past (and still do for larger cloud structures), but I figured some small wisps of cirrus clouds would be easy to add and add some much needed texture.
