Mazz is a mutated raven/skunk
I've always just been a mutated skunk, never part fox (big ears are a mutation).
Sam then started experimenting with genetic science and decided to see what would happen when he crossed his girlfriend with a Raven.
Thus I can fly and has a beak now. XD
I liked the concept to much to drop it so I decided to keep it as my fursona.
