Here is the second magic type from my worldbuilding: The Warlock.


Warlock: Their magic comes from a deal with a magical being (demon, deity, mage, nymph… ) Faith-related magic is included here, like paladins.

To become a warlock, one must make a deal with a magical entity. This includes elementals (deities, demons, nymphs) and in some cases, mages. The pact goes both ways, so the user would be giving something to the entity. Depending on the entity, the price is higher or lower, and it isn't relative to the power they give, so one must choose their patron carefully and negotiate properly, or the entity could take advantage of them.
Deals can be temporarily and have a very precise objective. For example, if someone wants to take revenge on their parents' killer, they could make the pact end when they achieve the goal of killing them.
What's offered can vary: life span, physical favours, spending time with them, volunteering, a body part, working a certain job... It's usually related to the personality and power of the entity. A succubus can ask for sexual rewards, a forest nymph can ask for you to clean up the woods monthly, and a moon diety to worship them.

Contacting an entity isn't easy : the entity has to contact you first, or you have to know a warlock that can put you in contact with them. Forming a pact with a demon is easier than with a god, but the cost tends to be higher.

Paca was an apprentice from a famous fire family who protected the country from fires and evil demons, yet she didn't have any power.
A succubus came to her aid and made a pact: sex in exchange for fire magic, once a month with her, and every week with someone else or herself. Her family didn't know that, and they accepted that she had gained magic. She was learning fast, although by her age, she was deemed 'too old' by her family to be starting. She was 18, when her siblings started at 6.

This pact might be a good one compared to others, but demons are the ones always taking advantage. One might think that having 'secured' sex often with a succubus might be a dream, but not everyone wishes to have sex often or ever. Something that can be intimate and romantic ends up becoming a chore. Thankfully, Paca has a high libido and doesn't mind it as much, but there are situations where she abhors her situation.
