FINALLY got this bitch finished...
CLEAN ARTWORKS?? ON MY FA?? IT'S MOER LIKELY THAN YOU THINK!!
I kind of promised a friend I'd start thinking about drawing more clean art. And after yet another Furry Friday on 4chan, I've come to realise that he's right:
Furry porn makes furry art look bad.
On top of that, furry porn is also cheap as hell. Everybody loves porn (well with the exception of one or two who don't) and stuff me if I'm just going to limit myself. I want to be known for my art, not my porn.
So now, to balance out the smut we usually draw, Staa has started an all new-all clean furry series in the same world as "Toolbox" (the Gin-gin manga.) which we've decided to call "Treasure quest" for want of a better name.
The main character, Soot, is actually Gin Gin's brother. A wily, mischievous little cat who left the tribe to search for treasure and adventure. Luckily, this was before they were enslaved. (If only he could see his brother now!)
On his travels, he meets up with fellow spelunker Ritami and her bodyguard Sen, and the three of them set out to look for treasure and get into all sorts of situations.
Ritami is a champagne squirrel who is brilliant at creating explosives from herbal powders, whereas Sen the coyote has brawn to back up her brain.
This is also the final style we're settling for in the Toolbox/Treasure quest series.
I used to be obsessed with finding treasure as a kid. In this series, I kind of hope to re-live that innocence.
Don't ever expect to see yiff of these characters, ever. (Unless of course people pressure us hard enough...)

This picture's so cute. You have the whole sense of adventure down~
But I thank you for noting that too.~ While yiff is nice, sometimes very nice, it is the one thing that brings furryness as a whole down. Unlike everything else, the thing we're most noted for is our yiff and not our work--and this goes for both those within our community and those outside. So if we have an account filled with a majority of yiff, we'll be known for nothing more than it and will eventually be known as great porn artists instead of great artists... really, when that's what's bringing us down, that's nothing that we should be incredibly proud of.
*bows before you*

every community is judged by its fringe aspects, but it depends on how fringe is fringe. I doubt this fandom will truly ever be able to demand any sort of respect (who are we trying to impress anyway?). It's like back in the day when cartoonists tried to get respect from the art community at large. Ain't never gonna happen XD
So might as well do what we like and enjoy our skills at what we do and not try and contrive something for the sake of trying to be respectable! (at the same time, if what we like to do doesn't involve drawing T&A all the time I can respect that as well, and trying to force an artist to if they don't want to is just as bad. Artists should feel pressured to stop drawing anything for any reason!)

I agree with you there, and I understand where you're coming from. I'd hate to have to give up what I'm good at and what I love to draw just because others find it wrong...
But I know that when someone's forte is something that they wouldn't want to show to their parents or anyone else respectable, then it's probably nothing that's going to give others who do it a good image either. There are some of us who draw nothing but adult works and are very good at it, but when it comes down to a wider aspect of things, these arts are nothing more than pornography with anthropomorphic animal characters.
Pornography is something will never, ever, be accepted as something that is "good" or "clean" by anyone, and is really more of something that is personal and made for pleasure... You can't go into any career fields with it outside of the porn industry though, and you also won't be taken seriously by any other profession because most will think of you as merely a person who does sex for a living.
I love yiff just as much as the next fur, and don't mind drawing it at all. But I have to accept that and remember that in order to get anywhere in life with my talent, I have to make at least two clean and cute works for every bit of yiff that I make... or else I'll have more people come to me for stroke material than for my actual works of art.
I wouldn't want that, personally... x:

well I hear you on the whole "gotta make a clean portfolio to get a job" sorta aspect, but that's only because practically everyone in the industry knows that's how society expects them to act or whatever. I disagree on your premise that it's "never ever good or clean" to draw some fun stuff now and then -- that's the sort of forced attitude that makes this construct so difficult to deal with in the first place.
If most people didn't give a crap based on what they expected everyone else would think we'd all be a lot better off. But, such is not the case so it has to become a dichotomy of "well, that's just the porn, pay no mind to it...." even if it's like a large amount of what a person draws for whatever reason... Haha, now I'm starting to veer off-topic from my original point. "Adult stuff is fine in its element and in its context" seems acceptable for our society nowadays. We're on a (mostly) adult site so whatever, knock yourself out is what I say XD
And as for the respectability thing, yeah I guess we can save that for other sites if we (the rhetorical we) feel we need it. Me personally, I have other ways to earn respect that don't involve drawing, lucky for me :B

Adult furry art should be kept to adult furry sites, then everyone's happy. It's as simple as that.
I mean...have you SEEN the carnage that occurs on /b/ every damn Friday? It's horrific!
Because you know, furry art's not like anime. There's MORE yiff than clean art, which quite frankly, is a bit sad. It doesn't really say good things about furries in general.

it used to have a really dirty rep until Pokemon and other kids shows started mainstreaming television in the USA, now it's everywhere. Before that, adult cartoons scared and confused people and it was those awful people from japan trying to corrupt our children subvertly somehow because their culture lives in sin or something retarded like that. I can't make this stuff up, sir!
('bout 60% of the book and movie stores in akihabara I walked into had dirty stuff in them, in plain view, no curtains... couldn't say whether or not this says anything for the impact positively or negatively of the reputation of the stuff but it does sorta imply it's now "here to stay" in the mainstream pop culture...)
furry's niche and I don't mind if it stays that way, but if it does become mainstream somehow it won't be because we tried really hard to earn everyone's respect... I gotta find some reading material on the hilariously misguided antics of people who naively thought otherwise known as the "burned furs". Appropriately named perhaps because the members acted like they were burned in real life for being a (or drawing) furry XD
I'm starting to veer on a tangent again, but if you wanna talk about bad reputations, it's all about the mashing of several fringe communities together that makes up the fandom which is part of the problem. Mascot suiters, plushophiles, and zoophiles all share the fandom with the artists and art fans and what you get is some pseudo-art-pseudo-fetish mash of something which, depending on who you ask, can be seen from one extreme or the other. It would take a mighty culture shift to bleed off those other people, but all of those aspects sorta define what people see of the fandom even if we don't like it :v
Haha, I apologize for polluting your submissions with comments :x

No no no, don't take that the wrong way. What i'm trying to say is that I can see his style (which is really just a derivitive of lackadaisy and various anime), shining through your originality. it's clearly yours.
SORT of reminds me of windwaker, honestly. /^-^
it's just awesome

Oh definitely. No doubt about it. Hell, when SL actually worked for my computer, half the places i wandered to tossed me out because I was in a unicorn outfit, to better fit my character. That, and it's not a game, so there is no real reason for me to keep playing. ...if i could.
Hey nothing wrong with some variety, im looking forward to seeing what kinda wacky hijinks you can come up with for this story, and personally i think Toolbox is a better name (arent there some cheap-o online flash RPGs called Treasure Quest or something)
Sounds like a fun cast of characters :3

Very cute. It is very important to understand that there are two camps in the furry fandom. Those who are okay with porn and those who really don't care for it. I like both and I can recognize good art when I see it. I can appreciate something that has more value than simply giving me a hard on. This is good. The cat fills me with joy. He looks so excited to see what's in the box.
I looked at the picture. I found it cute.
I read the description. I was immediately reminded of SaGa Frontier 2's Wil Knights (and party).
I have no idea why.
Very cute, in any case...
Also, while the porn may be fun to look at... It's stuff like this that really inspires the imagination.
