It is February 2024 and this is an compassionate appeal to help Sy (real name Mark Merlino), a cherished figure in the furry community and a founding member of the furry fandom, alongside his longtime partner Rod O'Riley. Mark immersed himself in this world in 1971, connecting with like-minded individuals at science fiction conventions who shared a passion for animal characters.

Mark's contributions are significant and include; in 1985 founded the Cartoon/Fantasy Organization; in 1985 organized the first furry room parties at science fiction conventions; in 1982 create the first furry BBS, Tiger's Den; in 1989, he co-founded ConFurence (the first ever furry convention) with Rod; and until the strokes, Mark and Rod hosted the renowned monthly furry house party, "The Prancing Skiltaire" in Garden Grove California.

In the face of these health challenges, Mark and Rod now bear a considerable financial burden. This is our moment, as a supportive community of furries, to rally around Mark and express our gratitude for all he has done for the fandom. Let's come together and offer our assistance during this challenging time."
