In the 1600s, what is now Vell used to be several separate kingdoms. In the first half of that century, one mage in the kingdom of Houndsdagger made impressive discoveries on very powerful magics, and became one of the most powerful creatures in the world...

(The creature in the blood is supposed to be an alphyn, which in my setting is kinda like a magic dog creature. They're kept as pets and guard dogs. But the reason for the alphyn as a symbol here is because of its resemblance to a certain someone...)
