Bolt was raised in the Mauville City Gym with his brother by none other than the Gym Ace himself. And although he spent his upbringing competing with his brother to inherit the family career, he has since left to pursue something more ambitious. His natural talent at what he does shows just how strong his bloodline runs, and he's eager to see how far it can take him. He brings a sense of discipline to the table, and tries to instill as much of that to his team members as he can.
Back when they were young, he had a kind of petty rivalry with Sbruce. His father, being the Ace of the gym and the head of the mauville security force, raised him to be a modest and respectful young man. Several times, he was able to beat almost the entirety of the mauville city gym on his own, much to his growing frustration. So when Sbruce and Rocknstone came along and started stirring up trouble in town, bragging of how strong they are, and acting so laid back, he took it personally and tried to set them straight. He mainly pegged Sbruce as the leader and the majority of his efforts were towards him. But after chasing him out of town one day, the two of them ended up falling into a sinkhole that got them lost and trapped in an underground cave. They eventually realized the hard way that the Bolt couldn't take the geodudes, and Sbruce couldn't take the zubats, and that they needed to work together to get out. And by the time they had made it back to town, an unbreakable friendship and respect had grown between them. Rocknstone says that Sbruce calmed down a lot after that night, and Bolt loosened up a lot more. Though, when asked how exactly it happened, both refuse to elaborate.
It was only with the help of his friends that Bolt was able to finally beat his father's gym, and he wears wears the badge with pride. Nowadays, he tends to be the order in the chaos amongst the group, and an anchor and close friend for Sbruce. They still squabble now and again over little things and poke fun at each other, but it's always in good humor.
