So this was a character that until fairly recently I never really thought about drawing even though he has been one of my earlier childhood memories - Batty Koda the Fruit Bat from the FernGully films.
He makes his initial debut in the 1992 Animated Musical Fantasy Film - FernGully: The Last Rainforest, which was a modest commercial and critical success at the time. In that film, he's voiced by the late, great Robin Williams, and it shows. It is practically a universal fact that Williams's personality and improv end up developing the characters he plays, and Batty is no exception. In FernGully, Batty is a neurotic, energetic fruit bat who was experimented on by humans and during the first film had an electrode stuck in his head that to some degree affected his behavior (which somehow disappears in the direct-to-film sequel along with Williams and the rest of the original VA cast). That bit I decided to leave out in this piece, chalking it up to maybe the fae folk of FernGully finding a way to remove it with their magic. His hands are not canon in terms of anatomy (only having one digit on their wing joints like most bats factually do), so it can be chalked up to more magic or just suspending one's disbelieve for a moment. It is fan art put into one's own headcanon 9w9
Quirks aside, he was one of my favorite characters as a kid, and as an adult, still has a place in my heart to a degree. It was a nice quick draw to get out =3
