Lumi takes a deep breath of the crisp spring air. As he walks along the forest path, he finds himself drawn to the flora around him. The grass, the trees, the bushes… for a time.
“That must feel bizarre, right?”
He looks to his side at a vaporeon his height. The meowscarada sighs peacefully.
“Maybe, but… I don’t really think about it. It brings me peace, you know?”
“Yeah, I understand. I feel the same way when I’m deep underwater.”
“You and me both~”
“Oh, hush~”
Not too long ago, Lumi had met Katie while going out for a walk near a river. She pulled him underwater, and began to hold him there, just to see him struggle. As much as he found that arousing, he didn’t appreciate being subjected to it, especially so suddenly. In his panic, he pulled off his mask, revealing his human self to the vaporeon.
After that, the two started over from the beginning, and found themselves to make great friends. They both loved to tease air breathers underwater, they both loved to express comfort and intimacy with others, and most of all, they both sought support in their own journeys. Lumi was looking to become more independent, and Katie, her lost mate.
“...this might come out of nowhere, but…”
“Hm? What’s up, Katie?”
“Well, I… just appreciate you, is all. Without you, I don’t think it would’ve been easy to find Kril…”
Kril, a large, muscular charizard, was the one who waited for the vaporeon. Reuniting with him changed Katie’s life forever, and she couldn’t thank Lumi enough for being her friend, and supporting the couple.
“Aww, you don’t need to say that! It’s just what friends do, right?”
“Well…”
Katie sighs and scratches her head.
“Remember that… just because a good friend is kind, doesn’t mean all friends are…”
“Mm…
“I don’t take you for granted, Lumi. These things, they’re not just things I expect you to do just because you’re my friend. I know, you have other things you could, maybe even want to do, instead of being with me, but you choose to be with me instead.”
“Hey… it’s no big deal, honest! It’s just nice to see you happy~”
“...it’s nice to see you happy, too.”
The two felines look at each other, and Katie looks down with a smile, before sitting down, crossing her legs. Lumi follows suit just as Katie gestures for him to do so, folding his legs to sit on his shins and feet.
The sun shined brightly on the pair. The morning was reaching full swing now, with lunch just around the corner. Lumi thinks he hears a growling stomach. The moment he’s been waiting for! With a sly chuckle befitting his species, he elbows Katie and whips out a clear plastic container. Inside is a turkey sandwich, made with neat and lovingly sliced white bread, cut into halves and wrapped up in packing paper.
“Hungry~?”
“...”
Katie looks at Lumi with a bewildered, almost haunting look. He smiles nervously, really hoping he didn’t do anything wrong… before the vaporeon plunges a paw into the liquid of her torso, bringing out a similar looking package… inside, a pair of cinnamon buns.
“Uh-!”
“I-I should have told you, ahahah!”
The two chuckle away their nervousness, happily deciding to strike a deal: each person gets a sandwich, and a bun. With the trade complete, the friends dig in, satiating their appetites and filling their bellies. After all is said and done, the two are content to sit next to each other and gaze up into the trees.
“...I appreciate you, too.”
Katie looks over at Lumi, the meowscarada smiling down at the ground. She closes her eyes, and listens.
“I feel a lot more confident in myself because of you. Maybe it’s a little silly, but… I feel like I’ve been able to be more of myself, ever since I met you.”
Katie’s closed eyes and mouth curl with soft and quiet joy. A warm feeling envelops her, and she can’t help but stand up.
“...?”
Lumi hears this, and Katie knows it. If there’s anything she wants to do now, standing over her friend, it’s one thing…
As Lumi raises his head to look at Katie, the vaporeon’s paw reaches up to grab his. Confused yet trusting, the meowscarada takes it and lets her pull him up. With a blank stare, he waits, hoping for an answer… before Katie suddenly moves in, and kisses him deeply.
“M-mm~??"
His eyes widen ever so slightly, his face flushing enough to match his pink-tipped tufts of fur on the sides of his head. He looks at Katie, taking in her face. Her eyes are closed, and she herself is blushing, if just a bit. As he feels Katie’s arm supporting his back, he relaxes, and lets her support him. He curls his left paw around the back of her neck, and kisses back, closing his eyes.
“Mmm~...”
The two friends don’t have much else to say to each other, now. The only sounds they can hear are each other’s affectionate coos, and their paws gently caressing the other’s back. The kiss lasts for what feels like hours, a trance of tender appreciation. Katie and Lumi, together, are in bliss… The only thing that dares to interrupt them is a thudding footstep, and a fiery huff of amusement.
“You two lovebirds having fun~?”
Lumi breaks the kiss immediately, looking over at a tall, buff charizard smirking at him. His eyes widen in embarrassment, but Katie just chuckles.
“What, I can’t show my friend how much I love him~?”
Kril smiles wider and walks right over.
“I don’t care what you two do. I’m just glad you have a good friend.”
“That makes two of us.”
Lumi lets out a little squeak as the charizard hugs the pair. He smiles sheepishly as Katie locks eyes with him, and with a little wink, he finds himself chuckling and giving in once more.
“I love you, Lumi. Thank you for being my friend.”
