And funn tidbit of information, but the Ranma 1/2 series was written by a female artist: Rumiko Takahashi, who also did the Urusei Yatsura Series and gave us Lum.

OH! She is also the one responsible for giving us Inuyasha as well!

This was one of the early gateway animes that got me hooked thanks to bootlegs of the OVAs on vhs. Was so confused by what was going on but still enjoyed it.

Only for a little while, from what I remember. Basically only until it was revealed to Ranma's mom that Ranma was cursed to turn into a girl.

Even if that's true, which seems different from what I remember, I'm pretty sure Ranma and everyone else at the Tendo home didn't know that, which is why Ranma hid as Ranko Tendo when Nodoka first showed up.

First was "Ranma 1/2: The Battle of Nekonron, China! The fight to break the rules!"
A mysterious stranger comes to Tokyo and in the ensuing scuffle, she loses her most prized possession, one half of a secred scroll, to Akane. A prince from a hidden kingdom in China, owner of the second half, comes to take the owner of the first as his bride! This was first localized as Ranma 1/2 the Movie: Big Trouble in Nekonron, China

Second was "Ranma 1/2: The Battle of Togenkyo! Rescue the brides!"
The gang take Tatewaki Kuno's yacht on a summer cruise, then get shipwrecked in a storm on an uncharted island. Then the drifting island of Togenkyo, which roams the Sea Of Japan, sends agents to abduct the women. The island is guarded by a magical barrier from a magical spring... but the waters of this spring turn everyone who touches it male. This means they have to abduct women from the neighboring islands to marry in order to procreate... but it also means Ranma could be rid of his sex-shifting curse if he gets to it (he won't LOL)! The movie was localized as "Ranma 1/2 movie 2: Nihao, my concubine".

Love that you and I both use "Ranma-chan" to specify his female form. It's a dying trend from ooooold-school fans. Most people seem to just use "Ranko" these days, which I don't like for some reason. :shrug:

I use it because that's the only name I know. I've never seen the anime.

Ahhh, you're missing out. Though really, the manga's better. The anime unfortunately got canceled, so a bunch of the best storylines from the manga were never animated.
