Za'yad used to repair and maintain weapons and armor for traveling adventurers which requires regular blacksmithing techniques, but Lipane smithing has a few different specialised skills such as Mana forging which is somewhat similar to regular enchanting to give certain properties and magical effects to a piece of equipment. But unlike enchanting these effects are more long term and sometimes even permanent depending on the skill of the mana smith. Then there is Imbuement which fuses materials with magical properties to an item that are natural to the materials that can also be used in alchemy, so for example salamander scales would give a fire affect to a weapon or armor. Though Imbuement doesn't always give predictable results with some more exotic or cursed materials. A more unique skill that only the Lipane offer is transmogrification, also known as divine or celestial forging. This is a ritual way of smithing which only really works with Lipane crafted gear or those which have been imbued with a Goddess tear, an extremely rare material that as the name suggests can only be given by one of the two Goddesses to those they deem their champion.

The special thing about transmogrification or celestial smithing changes the weapon or armor in effects, power and shape, but it has to be a blessed or Lipane made weapon or armor so it has the unique ability to absorb the memories of every battle and opponent, a rare material is also required as a catalyst for the process and might provide even more additional effects. The new form of the weapon or armor piece cannot be predicted, or it might not even seem to change form at all depending on how much "experience" the piece of equipment has, the only factor that can be controlled is when the ritual is performed either during the day or at night with an eclipse or the Moon's eye giving especially wild and interesting results.

Any of these skills do require a special forge and an anvil created from purified skyprism ore and condensed mana and tools made out of "glass" which allow the craftsman to channel their magic through them to activate the powers required for the ritual, a focus stone might also be required to be worn around the neck for both protection against a mana surge and more efficient use of power during the process. Za'yad used these skills to craft his set of armor, which is still the preferred uniform of the Za'yadun, and his sword Fire Thorn. Though this sword went missing along with him and nobody has managed to find it to this day and the Vossen who were blamed for his disappearance claim to not to have this weapon. Wether it is true or not they have at least never been seen wielding it, so maybe they are keeping it hidden or they aren't able to wield it's power.
