For Mythconduct's current round. This round I got Shaimee's character, Myrdiel. Myrdiel is the mistress of the Sun Palace, which she apparently murdered her sister to obtain.

So I was thinking about sunlight, palace structures, vile sorcery, and cobweb lace. First I though, "oooooh a neat lit from below type scene with dramatic shadows! Like at sunset!" And then I thought, "wait now. Dusk is way overdone. I've got to do better than that. Shit yes, dawn is the way to go! Right before the sun is well and truly up!" Which translated into pink highlights and purple shadows.

Cobweb lace describes a knit lace item made with very fine single ply yarn - often in a very fine fiber like silk, alpaca, or mohair. It catches light diffusely and has a really unique look. Someone so regal as to live in a palace ought to have truly fine knitwear. And how could I interrupt my knitting at night to draw a picture that contains nothing knit?

I did this in one mad rush last night. I was up till 2am working on it. Finally crashed while my paint was drying.

Woke up with a start at 7am with an idea for a companion piece. It's sketched, so I'll do the rest tomorrow since it's my day off. Now that it's sketched I'm not worried that I'll forget the idea in a sleepless haze.
