A gal that's been in my head for the last two weeks and another converted pony design to D&D~!
Helena Heartwood, a half-elf Moon Druid/Monster Hunter Ranger who runs a small inn for travelers that's a converted Hunting Lodge. It's unique in that it's half wood elf home tree, half proper lodge.
Basically, her story is Brother Bear, but I love it anyway.
She was part of a hunter guild and was pretty damn good at it! The guild is fine all things considered, and usually only hunt monsters that are causing issues to protect people, not just go after them for existing. But then the old guildmaster retires and a new one takes over, like his son or something. He's the sort that don't see "monsters" as human, and will look at any excuse for a fight. One day, they raid a werewolf den that the guild decides is too close to a town, and even though Helena gets bitten pretty bad (though not turned), she hesitates to strike the killing blow, because she sees that she was only protecting her pups. Seeing pups kinda puts it all into perspective for Helena, and it all comes crashing down on her. She helps the mother and pups and anyone else she can get out escape, even going so far as killing a hunter that was targeting the pups. The guild kicked her out, but the lodge itself was owned by her (inherited by her wood elf grandfather, who it was GROWN BY) so the guild got kicked out of her lodge. She felt like she needed to atone for things and wanted to learn more about the monsters they were hunting, so she became a Moon Druid to better connect with animals and beasts. Now she runs a sort of rest stop house for travelers from the lodge and OOPS turns out there's Werewolves to her north and she is smack between the end of their territory and the nearest town to them.
