"Wings don't always work, as any metamorph with them can attest. Whether a bat, bird, pterosaur, dragon or winged insect, having a parachute is the smart thing to do... although if you can convince a peregrine falcon of that, you are amazing: Peregrines are convinced they don't need them since their wings can handle speeds over 200 mph."
