This is Queen Demonica Lilitha Umbra Tenebris, my (second) reimagining of the Shadow Queen from Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door! She was lots of fun to design, plus I gave her a backstory and a more complex personality. And more lore I made up.
As you can see here, she has attire that’s styled after the European Renaissance, especially since the Palace of Shadow gives me mega Gilded Renaissance vibes.
Demonica was once a curious demoness from the Celestial Realm who wanted to know what it was like outside of the barriers of her world. She came to the kingdom of Briarthorne with curiosity of how the magical yet mortal world is like. She hid in the palace and observed everything there, including its own artifacts. However, as curiosity got the better of her, miasma began to manifest and slowly corrupt her into a greedy thief. She began to steal items that would grant her more magical power, using her otherworldly magic to ward off any Royal Guard that would go after her.
Eventually she stole the Crystal Stars that were kept across the kingdom, with the help of two dragons she found and mind-controlled as well as three other demonesses that accompanied her. With the sheer power of these sacred crystals, she overthrew the House of Belrose and became Queen in their place, believing that the kingdom is better off being ruled by a god rather than a monarch that is much like her people. She would meet her end thanks to Queen Floribunda, the queen who was overthrown by her, and four heroes whom Floribunda had knighted, who used the Crystal Stars against her, for they had the power to slay an immortal. The last true queen sent her spirit deep in the crypts of the palace and sealed her there for a thousand years, where she would wait until the day she is set free.
