Sunn was born to a rich family, making their fortune on war and suffering. He didn’t take enough interest in the family business and was shunned and forced into a coven where he was made to pray and praise a god of war.
He grew to despise the place but kept a good face until he was placed in a position to recruit others. He was sent to live in a small village near the sea. The area before the war, now no longer there, was known as The Ivory Crown. It was a beautiful place high up a mountain ridge on top of a volcano. A massive crater chain made the village a ring of houses around the bigger crater in the middle full of beautiful woods.
The lava and magma long gone in the extinct volcano made it an ideal place to live at the time. Sunn was placed to convert the villagers and live along with 2 other disciples.
He spent the first year getting to know the people and preaching behind the other two. They were told of places and things to avoid such as the central forest. As the beasts there rarely let someone walk through it and to the outside.
Yet when the villagers decided to expand their land they began to chop down the trees and take land for themselves. When no beasts showed up to stop them, they took down the entire forest in a short time. Something Sunn was against and vocally opposed as even if no beasts live there, nature belongs to nature.
‘’Sweet Sunn, stop trying to save the trees, you look stupid’’ his fellow disciples said.
Sunn was tall with very long silvery hair and a soft feminine face. He had wide shoulders and wore the traditional light blue and white garments given by the coven.
One night he heard the first scream of many and sat upright.
He looked out finding the entire central crater in smoke. ‘’A dragon?’’ he asked himself scouting the skies before he saw it. A four legged monster the size of a church stomping the houses and killing off anyone in its way. Children, mothers, fathers and elders all killed swiftly by the monsters that were crawling out of the hidden caves they hibernated in in large numbers.
The following days some of the people living in the villages around the main big crater began moving out and away in fear. The majority stubbornly stayed but remained indoors.
The monsters began planting new trees to rebuild the forest. Somewhat aware the war was coming closer and closer, the remaining people stayed out of pure fear, knowing they had nowhere to go.
Sunn one morning left the house and heard a soft chirp. He walked down towards the main big crater, carefully looking around before finding a four legged injured child. This child had a centaur build of a massive muscular dragon on the lower body with the upper torso of man, covered in scales.
‘Most of the beasts had fur, this one had scales?’ He thought to himself as he gently untangled the child’s feet and tried to help it stand. Finding the hind legs broken, he gently placed a hand under the child’s belly and had the child wrap its arms around his neck. The child looked at his neck debating on if it should sink it’s teeth and kill him.
Sunn carried the beastling home to the joy of his comrades ‘’A beast of destruction, it’s a sign from our god!’’ they said happily.
Sunn bathed the boy first, then placed rods along the leg bones to set them in the right places. Lastly, he wrapped them with minty green healing bandages.
The boy slowly healed his legs but an infection had taken root and took a toll on the poor young one. He healed enough to drop scabs of burned skin revealing his ‘scales’ were in reality nothing but burned skin covering all of his visible skin.
Sunn was horrified and quickly tended to the sickly boy, trying to get him better as soon as possible. The boys scarred skin leaving him bare without fur, but not looking to be without touch he often reached for hugs and hold.
Sunn cared for him 2 months before the boy’s improvement stalled. The bones here healed but no improvement on his mobility and the infection spread through his body rapidly with no healer to help.
One morning, shortly after Sunn woke up, he found the boy had passed. He, along his partners, softly rolled the boy up in bedding and carried the fallen child to the central craters. They dug a 7 foot deep hole in the ground and lined it with bedding to bury the child. When the body was laid in the grave, a roar of pure rage shattered their funeral. A 30 foot tall male ran towards them with his arms out wielding swords the size of light posts and a face holding more rage than any have ever seen before.
The two comrades tried to run but the beast threw the swords at the fleeing people and clever them in two. All while Sunn sat softly caressing the head of the little child. The monster raised front legs about to stomp on Sunn but he ignored him. He closed his eyes and found peace in knowing he will pass with the little one so he wouldn’t be alone.
The monster’s feet stomped on the ground, barely missing Sunn by an inch. The monster leaned down and saw the tears of sorrow falling from a face with no emotion due to mourning and a soft sigh.
A huff of hot air struck Sunn almost knocking him over. Rather than trying to shield himself, he shielded the child’s body instead.
The beast laid down next to the grave and softly picked the baby up and placed it in the grave before burying, who Sunn assumed, was probably his child. Sunn waited for the beast to bury the child then placed a rune of peace on the grave.
The beast opened his mouth as if about to speak common but let out a growl instead.
Sunn stood up and was quick to go to back to his village again while the monster got up and returned to his land. Sunn would return and leave flowers at the child’s grave every Sunday morning. Occasionally, he would sometimes see a big monster or two look his way, huff their chest out but never approach him.
One morning he woke up to the roar of the beast, the repeated loud roaring woke him up and got him to look out of his bedroom window. As he looked out the window he saw the same beast that helped bury the child he was unable to save. It locked eyes with him and growled so loud he felt the window shake. He quickly donned his night gown and left the safety of his home to go see it. The beast picked him up by his waist and walked down to the beasts secret tunnels. It kicked the ground revealing a ‘lid’ that popped out of the ground. The beast calmly walked down before said lid slammed down in place, closing his only means of escape.
Down there he was shown to a female, clearly in labor with her legs tied out. ‘’Mruff’’ the male said and Sunn pointed to the female in confusion, the female looked to Sunn and growled that said she was about to beat him before being struck to the ground by the alpha.
He was made to pull stones and blades from her thighs, arrows and swords, and a couple of spears from what looked to be a weapon trap. The kind of trap where one places low grade weapons on top of explosives.
He cleaned her wounds and sewed her wounds shut while the male helped deliver the baby. The female awakened and Sunn ran to hide behind the male hugging his leg, not knowing of the horse like reflex kick this male fought to perform.
Sunn was let go back to the village but would return to the crater to see the beasts. He taught them to befriend birds to pick out pests and such. He also showed them how to spot traps and such things. To say he was a friend would be inaccurate, they viewed him more as a pet.
The war caught up with the village and beasts that lived nearby. A mage known as Gallucius came to the crater and cursed all animals. One by one he filled them all with irrational rage and made them turn up in large groups. They destroyed the land and homes around them.
The villagers tried to kill him only to be killed themselves. The ones who ran were quickly killed by their pets and cattle that were turned to beasts
The few who outran the animals often ended up falling down the mountain, leaving even fewer survivors.
Sunn, along with a group of people, hid in the basement of the house he was assigned. Gallucius found them easily. Sunn used shield and reflection attacks while trying to protect himself and those with him. He managed to fight the man back up the stairs of the house before letting out a massive lightning storm attack from his left palm, sending the man flying out a window.
Gallucius woke up in the central crater and quickly let out a wave of corruption. The corruption made the beasts go mad and come out en masse. Their eyes melting out of their heads to make them more anxious and angry. They huffed red smoke from their breath and ran for Sunn screaming and swinging. Sunn let out a whimper and the herd stopped.
He held his hands out before him and walked up to the main one. He circled and hugged the hind leg like he had before, telling him who he is.
The enraged monster looked down and gently pat Sunn on the head. This enraged Gallucius who sent spears made of fire flying toward the beasts. Sunn blocked it all with his own magic and charged the man, tackling him with a shoulder to the gut that cracking a couple ribs. With the enemy mage on the ground, Sunn began pounding his fists down beating his lip busted open and elbowing the cheek before the mage managed to retaliate with a blade. The blade stabbed up the sides, sliding between the ribs before pointing up and piercing into Sunn’s lung. The mage pulled the blade out then planted it deep enough into Sunn’s body to hit his heart.
Sunn was rolled off and Gallucius smiled and attempted to stab Sunn in the neck. Sunn managed to block the blade having it pierce through both hands instead. Sunn rolled on to his front pushing the blade out before the enemy mage grabbed it and stabbed him in the back repeatedly.
The war caught up quick and the incident with the dragoness in the sky being slashed open happened. Three of her eggs broke open releasing the whole intact yolk of each. One hit Nocturne, one hit Fahriel, and the last was heading towards Gallucius who was ready to receive the yolk that would bless him with eternal life and power beyond his imagination.
Gallucius sensed the yolks power and opened his arms as if he waited for it to land on him. The beasts though had other plans. A swing with a back hand as the yolk rushed him, smacked him hard enough to cut him off at the waist. The legs stood upright as the upper body was sent flying towards a wall that ended with a splat and a burst of blood that looked like a balloon of blood exploded.
The yolk landed next to Sunn intact. Sunn looked to it sobbing and with his last breath spoke. ‘’It could have been... a pretty dragon, you know?’’ Sunn placed a palm on the yolk as he accepted his death. Before the darkness engulfed his being. The darkness never came and he suddenly opened his eyes. The yolk he was gently touching and mourning over was now merging with his hand and him. He began to heal and feel stronger, stronger than he had ever felt in his life. He rolled onto his side, seeing his blood in a blue color before all his wounds healed. Once he was healed, then the transformation started. His hands transformed from human hands to hands and claws of a dragon.
He stood up and found himself standing naturally on four legs. The beasts were now more enraged and still five times his size, rallied as to resume their attack to get revenge on the mortal men. Sunn quickly sat down on a rock in the middle and sang a soft song. All the enraged beasts calmed down and looked to him. Those with eyes recognizing him and telling the others as they all circle him. The whole clan calmed down and Sunn suggested they remake the forest and remain where they are.
They still view Sunn as a pet and they let him take care of their needs in exchange for peace with the people of the mountain.
After a little bit of time passed, Sunn found the god of beasts. He sleeps in the volcano the size of a small mountain and has the power to level one with a single step. Sunn regularly goes to where the god of beasts sleeps to sing and soothe the god. Other days he would go out in the open and soothe the beasts in the woods.
Sunn’s family assumes he is dead. He has a grave but there is no body in it as he lives on in the mountain in a hidden location. An unsung hero protecting a larger amount of people than anyone by simply being himself. If he did not do this duty, the world wouldn’t need another war for the world to end.
