Depends which version of the film you saw . The US theatrical release was 2.5 hours long, a decade later the directors cut came out, 3.5 hours. But the German version that aired on TV was almost 6 hours long and 100% true to the book.
I own both the 3.5 and 6 hour versions, both available on Amazon.
The miniseries that's recently been released isn't even close to the book.

I saw the original 6 part series in television back in the day... then I saw the moive anda later the directors cut.
The 6 part series is my goto poison however.
But according to the author himself, neither series nor movie was 100% true to the book, but which adaptation ever is?
