I'm going to get some angry comments for this guy. :P
Here in the south, they call these Palmetto Bugs.
They're quite large and quite abundant. I normally don't see them out in the open, but this one crawled over my foot. I think I disturbed it while edging the yard by my house.
A lot of people are really freaked out by these things. They can be a little intimidating as they are pretty large as far as insects go.
Enjoy! Or don't. :P

I'm sad to say it, but I've been in more than one restaurant where these guys have made sudden appearances. The worst was in a little cafe in Death Valley... this huge bugger crawled up onto our tabletop and mingled with our plates. We tried to catch it under a coffee cup, but it skittered under the edge of it, pushed it up, and jumped off the table onto the floor. It was pretty gross, but you do have to admire a bug that can all but toss aside a heavy porcelain coffee mug.
Hooray for FA's search function xB Awesome shot! I'd love to start a colony of these, but apparently they aren't as sought-after as "cleaner" and "prettier" species. ;P Maybe I should try looking around Pittsburgh come Anthrocon, it's a pretty freaking nasty city. XD
