The defining quality of a 'freak' is someone so outside the normal parameters of social acceptability that they are regarded as less, a pariah and a laughingstock, yet what is perceived by a majority isn't an inner truth. The so called consensus of the masses, judging something to be worthy or cool, is quite the opposite. Following the flock, trying to be as one with them, is the greater disgrace. They see not their own flaws, their weakness, the way in which though alone the world shows us something precious and worthy within ourselves. It should be a place of pride, to possess an island of a soul, to use the weapons of true identity and self sovereignty to turn aside the poison of outside judgment and small minded ridicule. To give the voices of others power over the self and what you may be, believe, is the greater shame by far. Don't listen, realize their opinions are shit, free yourself from what others think. Far easier for them, I'd think, to point fingers and hoot the hateful rather than look into a mirror. Indeed, that criticism has within it's genesis fear.
