Laura Quartermain. Gymnastist, Rockclimber, Gun Nut, Highly desired bachelorette, Rich and of course, Extremely intelligent.
this was Francis M Quartermain's only child, and... well... for some reason, he got her when he was around 70.
Many think she is his grandchild. no.
Still, she did share her fathers love for history, discovery and wanted to partake in mans neverending quest for knowledge and rememberance. so of course, in the 90's, she partook in expeditions to all sorts of destinations.
Alone.
This is something most people discourage. mostly because... well... i'll just tell you what happened.
in 1998, she was on a expedition in the Aegean Sea, but for a few weeks, she was unheard of. her estate asked Miskatonic University for help, because she was looking for the lost temple of Dionysus and were fearing the worst.
We agreed, and followed the breadcrumbs until we encountered a cave-system that at first was of no particular interest, but as we went deeper in, there was gold. gold dust, gold nuggets, gold bars and eventually, when we reached parts that seemed to have been abbandoned since the fall of Rome, we saw lifesized golden statues of men and women. perfectly preserved in non-reactive pure gold hidden in a abandoned temple.
strange we thought. a place like this should've been looted ages ago.
and where did they get this much gold in ancient times?
One professor noticed that in the middle of the temple was an altar with a golden statue of a woman. he thought it was strange because it looked horrified on it's hands, like something happened to her.
he decided to climb to it to inspect it.
as it happened another professor asked "Wait, is it just me, or does the altar look like a... hand?"
Next thing we knew, there were now TWO golden statues on the shrine.
...
after absorbing what happened, we concluded that the statue looked like Laura Quartermain.
whoops.
