Since in this setting Theo isn’t Catnap, I’m wondering what the toys ultimately are. Are they still former human experiments, or something like artificial constructs?

You know, that's a really good question. In the game they are humans modified and transformed into toys. However, i'd like to think my versions of the toys are artificial constructs using human body parts to bring them to life. Unlike the game, these constructs have their own thoughts and personalities and not children's imitating these characters. However, sometimes they can see certain memories or feel strong emotions from the children's who's organs/body parts were used to make them. I hope that made some sense. Admitting I didn't really think that far but I want these toys to be themselves and not humans imitating these toys.
