"mgmt" looks like an abbreviation for "management'. since i listen more to the stuff on here and a few other places like synth music direct and kvmr.org (which are all any day of the week better anyway), then anything commercial, i have absolutely no idea who they are or were.
It is an abbreviation for management, and I often ask my friends if they listen to "The Management", to which they never understand; however, if I mention it as MGMT then there's instant recognition. It's amusing how people can claim they're fans of something and not even have knowledge of things as trivial as the band's full name.
