That being said, remember that cats are obligate carnivores. They are not like dogs. When you feed them expensive food "with real peas, potatoes, and corn!," it's the same thing as if you were eating Salisbury steak "with real wood pulp!" Ideally you want a food with low ash and low carbohydrate. Realistically... feed them what they eat, but try to avoid supermarket junk if possible. Also, give them a fountain to encourage drinking plenty of water.
