Chapter 16 - Not What We Eggspected
<<< PREV | FIRST | NEXT >>>
In this chapter: Vayryn lays her first eggs!
Vayryn: "Zhis is za worst weekend of my life."
Author: "The worst weekend of your life so far.
Though, honestly, probably one of the worst weekends she'll get. At least for a while. Not only was it painful, but it was also scary and humiliating. Kass better be grateful he hasn't had to put up with this yet! Poor Vayryn... Hey, it could be worse. I could've combined this with the next chapter, so she'd plop them out while dealing with the stress that's happening there! Oooh, that would be an ultra-nightmare.
Did you know that a female yinglet's body will "pause" egg production until their first orgasm? When they have that experience and the corresponding flood of hormones, their body decides that if they're mating, it's time to produce eggs. Once the eggs start entering their "fertile period", they have a couple weeks or so to be fertilized, and then it's time to lay! The process will repeat, with it taking about a month and a half to reach the "fertile period" again. If she abstains completely, eventually the body will "pause" production again after a few empty cycles, but... Well, it really was a wonderful night. Is it really worth giving that up just to avoid a rough weekend every other month? Sure, this weekend was bad, but once you get used to it... Better than a human's cycle, I'd say.
I know I was hyping this chapter up as "Corwyn's parents drop by unexpectedly", but I split it up into two chapters with the parents showing up next chapter. I had originally thought (stupid me) that the eggs would be a small thing that I could gloss over, about 2k words or so, and the parents would be the main focus. Buuuut I was quickly reminded that this is a HUGE thing for her, with a lot of emotions, especially with how awful the entire process would be. So I decided to make each their own chapter, so each of them can have more spotlight and focus and detail! "I'll break these two up, or else I'm going to have a 10k word chapter."
...And then this chapter ends up 10,358 words anyway. Darn it. It even passed the previous longest Vayryn chapter, which was just last chapter. Still isn't longer than Princess Chapter 3's 10,701, though? So, at least there's that?
I'm planning to do these two back-to-back as well, in celebration of the fanart made by QuasarCreature! (If you haven't seen that yet, and I don't know how, you should check it out. It's adorable. Vayryn in her Kass outfit. Who wore it better? I don't know, but Vayryn certainly seems happier.) So that way, even though I feel bad about hyping up the parents visiting and then not having that happen, it will still be soon? The next chapter posted will be Modern Major Yinglet chapter 17. ^_^

Oh goodness. Poor Vayryn. Poor Corey too! She yelled at him so much this chapter. I hope things calm down soon (considering Corey's parents are showing up, I think I rather doubt it :>).
I love this story so, so much. Words cannot convey just how much I want to thank you for writing and sharing it with us. (Also forgive me if you've responded to my comments and I haven't yet. I haven't found out how to make FA send me notifications when someone responds, so most comments tend to get forgotten about.)

She calmed down a bit once she had it pointed out that she was being kind of a jerk about it. When you're trying to be strong for someone else, having them accuse you of not having worries can be really frustrating. ^_^;;
As for notifications, all I know is the top right of a page, where it shows the "new messages" counts. 8425S 36W 188C 186F 186J for instance. (I should probably clear mine out, huh? >.> ) Clicking on those numbers takes you to the relevant section. (Though, W/C/F/J are all the same page, /msg/others/, but it'll try to bring you to that section of the page.) If you have unread notes, there'll be #N that takes you to that page as well.

Every so often, I'll nuke things to clear them out. Usually around the time I hit 10k submissions. I don't clear them out as I view them because... uhh... Look, a squirrel! (Way back when, I would clear out ones I didn't want to keep around, using it as a sort of "invisible favorites" thing, but that got to be too much work plus I'm trying to be better about actually faving things. So I guess it's just laziness at this point? Never really thought about it.)
Ah, the miracle of childbirth, such a glorious occation. Although, not to Vayryn, and can't really say I blame her. At least they weren't fertilized, so no yinglet babies That'll come after the mass yingletification
Also, Dr Hart is giving me major Ran vibes, although I feel that's intentional

Vayryn notices it, and until the convention, it provoked a feeling of "I don't want to admit it because that means what Za Bastard did was good."
Since the convention, she's been happier, and starting to get to the feeling of "Things are better because I made them better. Things are better in spite of being a yinglet, not because of it."
Which means she'll grumble and glare if you point out that most of the stuff she has that's better is because of being a yinglet. If she hadn't been changed, she wouldn't have had the energy to be able to get back into programming, and she wouldn't have met Corwyn. And she wouldn't have had the convention experience she did. ^.~
