That gum was my childhood 😔

No real loss on my part. Fruit stripe gum never lasted it lost its flavor almost the second you started chewing.

I feel like we all have the Mandela Effect, as if we all remember it having a flavor, but it was so brief, it makes you question if it truly had any flavor in the first place... or if we all imagined it.

I looked it up and because of how this particular gum was made, the flavor bits react and breakdown in saliva faster than other gums so it’s like the very second that gum’s touching your tongue it loses its flavor

No kidding. You needed to chew the whole pack at once for the flavor to last longer than a soda commercial.

I can sympathize with the tiger pony, I fondly remember the colored Zebra and the commercials.

But the gum itself sorta sucked, losing the flavor in a few minutes. I remember as a kid chewing a whole pack at once just to get a missive hit of flavor...which actually is pretty gross.

The Zebra cartoon character is what sold the gum plus the jingle/catch phrase Yikes! Stripes! Fruit Stripe Gum. Sticks with you after 50 something years.

I tried the gum once (was tough to track it down, surprisingly) and it was garbage. I'm surprised the brand was still around, tbh.

Thank you for not doing Loss. I truly hate that it has become a mainstream meme. It is fundamentally tied to miscarriage, a wholly serious issue.

Part of the reason why Loss became a meme was because of the tonal whiplash of a comic about silly video game things suddenly venturing into extremely heavy topics like losing a pregnancy. It was ridiculous and handled poorly, and then became reduced to lines to reference the ridiculous comic

I am well aware of the history. Every time I say why I don't like the meme, people think they're giving me an education by telling me what you just said. I read the whole comic. My point stands.

Had a similar feeling when I learned that I wouldn't be getting any GOOD RTS games after C&C Tiberium Wars. But then Company of Heroes 1 came out! A couple others a bit later! My point is, it'll be ok. Either something better will come OR you'll find something just as good if you look. ^^

What did shuting down mean here?

I remember the last time I had a stick of Fruit Stripes. I was on my way to a date and was so nervous that in my haste I left without brushing my teeth (again) so I was worried my breath might stink. I decided to stop at a gas station to get some gum, but I wanted some that would lose it's flavor before I arrived so I could trash the used piece without feeling guilty. Thanks Fruit Stripes, you will be missed!
