Unlike some bird species, American crows are not known to chase away their young when they reach maturity, sometimes feeding and caring for their offspring for upwards of five years. This juvenile crow is a perfect example of this phenomenon, having stayed with her mother for three years at this point. Usually in these cases, the crow does not expand to such large sizes, but living in the parking-lot planter of a mall has definitely caused a considerable weight gain. Around year one and a half, this crow fell from the tree which her mother had nested in, outgrowing the tiny and unstable nest. She hit the ground with a thud and an almost weak bounce, and has been firmly planted on the ground since. Her mother, undeterred by her daughter's predicament and incredibly unhealthy weight, continued to endulge her, constructing a poor nest around the swollen bird out of grasses. The shopping plaza shielded the crow from terrestrial predators, deterring them with the abundance of humans, thus indulging her gluttony and allowing her to grow further.
Proceeding her fall, the crow was fed up to twenty times a day, her mother becoming used to traversing within the store to overfeed her offspring, bringing home chips, chicken, pizzas, burgers and other confectionaries to stuff into her daughter's swelling form, leaving scraps and litter around the fat-engulfed corvid. Now at the three year mark, the crow has reached critical mass, her body groaning and straining with lard, as stretchmarks settle beneath her features and her body aches with added food. Her face is crowded with fat, her round cheeks partially impairing her vision, as stacks of tick plush rolls immobilising her neck at a permanently star-gazing angle. All over her body sits the sticky stains of previous feasts, scattering her body like painted streaks comprised of grease, froasting and residue, her mother unbothered by her state, continuing to feed her and dirty her voluminous body further. She sits impatiently at the base of the tree she used to inhabit, wheezing and huffing as she waits for her next meal, although she isn't exerting any energy and hasn't for a long time. Her mother finally returns, having foraged a full pizza slice from the nearby dumpster. Her pampered and bloated daughter flaps her wings, wobbling and squirming with determination to snatch the slice form her mother's beak, cawing between gasps for air. It's safe to say, she'll be staying with her mother for more than just five years...
