Here is a reference sheet that my friend,
Turo, recently did for me of a Zootopia OC that I have been working on with my partner! I am just super excited how this turned out as I only ever had a description in my mind, initially, and had to whip up something using various visual references to really help move things along.
Turo does a fantastic job of bringing characters to life, and I highly recommend going to him if you have no real references for your characters and wish to get a visual representation of them made. ^^
So a story breakdown with this character: His real name was Alexis, a rather feminine rabbit who lived in Zootopia among other varieties of animals me and my partner conjured up. He was an actor who was making his way in the world when a tragic traffic accident had nearly destroyed his body. A close and personal friend of his, whose had secret ties to a fallen animal kingdom with advanced technology, a place far removed from the city of Zootopia, decides to bring him back by means that are completely unorthodox: Creating an artificial body that mimics the biological traits of ordinary animals, but with enhanced abilities and characteristics. You might even say something akin to the synthetic biomechanical androids from Ridley Scott's Alien universe - Beings that look and act the same way ordinary biological lifeforms do except with better physiology and greater intelligence with their own unique anatomy.
However, as advanced as the process was, Alexis' mind couldn't be completely salvaged and a new fresh mind was created as a basis for the memories and personality of the old to grow from- A new being that was adapting from the past and memories of someone else, so it was like Alexis but not. This new animal, accepting this new form and shared identity, refers to himself as Lex, and despite given female genitalia, (likely due to the complications of the procedure in that it was also done in a hurry) still identifies as male from the memories and character traits he's adapted from Alexis. He's a very mellow and calm sort, who still shares Alexis' kind and fun-loving disposition, but puts on a more rational and less excitable side to it. One would even call him more of a free spirit as his new mind and body have adopted a more care-free perspective on life and doesn't feel the need to wear as much clothing except for an occasional leotard or some simple shirts and things to at least uphold Zootopia's terms of modesty.
As hinted above, Lex does have his own form of complex artificial anatomy that differs heavily from ordinary animals from the way he breathes, digests, and thinks. He's able to process information far faster and more clearly, is given enhanced strength thanks to the intense muscle fibers in his body, as well as being far more durable with tightening muscle structure and increased healing abilities. He's also taller than any hare or rabbit and would stand about as tall as a small gazelle, making him even more of a unique creation. All of this was a conscious decision made by his friend (keeping him a secret as he's my partner's OC and is quite secretive about his creations) to make sure that he was given a far more durable and preserving body that wouldn't be so defenseless. In fact, this also feeds into his desire to help make Zootopia a better place - Having decided not to resume Alexis' career in acting, he partners up with Alexis' close friends in the Zootopia Detective Agency (a fan created organization I made that one of my characters runs) decides to be an operative in.
On a side note, as far as the complexities on gender are concerned, I think the appropriate term for Lex is an andromorph: Something with male attributes but female genitalia, since Lex wasn't really transitioned (especially by his own will) and was more or less given this form out of circumstance.
