An atmospheric black metal project I've had in mind for a long, long time, finally coming around.
For those who don't understand the implications of "atmospheric black metal": This song is pretty long, the riffs are drawn out, and the whole thing is drenched in reverb. This sounds nothing like Dimmu Borgir or [insert your favorite symphonic metal band pretending to be black metal here]. This thing sounds like it was recorded in an old church, with the microphone about 35 feet out. If you're seeking high production value, you shouldn't have clicked on something that says "black metal" in the first place.
Now that I've weeded out those who don't actually want to listen to this, listeners may note that there is a lot of low end going on in this thing. As such, you should crank the volume way up as per the Sunn O))) rule: Maximum Volume Yields Maximum Results.
Enjoy, or don't.

Dude, this is fucking amazing! I especially like the low end, of course, leaving it out sounds more icicle-y and frost-covered, but having it adds so much more atmosphere. The church thing with the mic 35 feet away made me chuckle. xD I also love the half-step dissonances in the middle...reminds me of the Fathers of the Icy Age era Blut Aus Nord records <3

100 points to you, sir! Nobody seems to grasp this concept.
Digging the fuck out of the low end on this thing, but that's probably my love of deathcore showing.

Glad you're enjoying it! Bass is my primary instrument, and as if that weren't enough to solidify my love of all things low and rumbly, I'm also a huge freak for death, stoner, doom metal and drone. So the lower the frequency and the filthier the distortion, the happier I am. Expect more of the same.
I cannot abstain from commenting how gloomy this feels. The riff, especially from 0:10 to 0:30 reminds me of Blut Aus Nord, their album Odinist more specifically.
It's lovely how special emphasize you put on the bass, not something you see in your everyday black metal where bass is thrown in the obscurity, which to my mind... is quite neglecting. A good bass can provide a very lugubrious atmosphere.
Outstanding job you did there.
I am also curious of your opinion about the Symphonic Black Metal, anyway :P
