Checkers is seen here with his first girlfriend, Splatter the Rainwing (owned by one of my best friends), and nuzzling aplenty. Even though a few years would pass before they split up following a open relationship with Splatter's girlfriend, another Rainwing named Hyacinth, they still cared for one another.
Evidently, they still harboured their original feelings towards each other. They thought they'd moved on, but they were only suppressing their old feelings.
