An ambiguous depiction that is free for interpretation but has a rather clear title. ;)
I tried to set the mood of the colours that fits the metaphor and its many ways how it can be seen by the viewer.
I rarely use strong colour fades like this when I work with traditional media but this image seemed to break my fear to dip my brushes into strong, unmixed paint.
It was once again a honour to work together with
seyorrol who has absolutely amazing ideas and visions. Whenever I come up with one idea, he often comes up with thirty. :D
Every collab with him is a great experience. Check out his gallery!
This painting will be available at Mephit Mini Con.

Though it might not be intended in this work, 'le petit mort' is actually a nickname for sex in the French language, from around the time of the Revolution. It's a bit of a double-entendre here, since he could be in intense pain -or- pleasure from the expression.
'least, s'what I see!

And the experience shortly before and after, including the buildup and the melancholy afterwards, as a metaphor for existence and in and of itself, but since it was simply a title, I figured a redacted summary would work.
It includes more than the moment and less than the whole act, but there's not really a term for it.

I did not have to check Wikipedia, however the third line OF said Wiki is this. "La petite mort, French for "the little death", is a metaphor for orgasm."
Thereafter it goes into the new-aged hippy transcendence nonsense and uses other than the original meaning.
But in any case, this is a really cool picture and while well worth arguing over, I'm done with this thread and will just enjoy the image.
<3 this gorgeous piece, Alector!

I respect your right to pedantry by all means, but not to ignore the context and go right for the part of the definition you like and then take the high ground after getting in the last word.
Suffice it to say, both of our definitions do fit into what's accepted, regardless of what you feel is new-aged hippy transcendence nonsense or not.

when i saw this picture and its title, it made me want to know what my last name meant. my last name is from a german ancestry, and is Loewen. =) because of this picture i have found out that my last name means lion/courageous (even though i feel like it doesnt apply to me) all in all, interesting bit of research ^^
I have always loved
Chinookblue's work, and he never ceases to amaze me with his creativity and his beautiful, detailed pencil work. Your addition of such vibrant, flowing color crowns this piece and brings his vision to life in a whole new way.
Really wonderful, I hope you two collaborate again in the future!
