unfortunately discord is still a must for this, the enemy is now the friend
pasting the animation links into discord servers or dms themselves (yes, as they are in my descriptions) like i say to in my bio will automagically update the link into the new format, and restore the video to it's watchable state!
of course it'll still expire after so long, but it doesn't kill the animations entirely like i thought without my having to update every single link over and over just to keep them alive
this is a temporary solution; i will still have to do deal with this in a decisive manner. but for now, discord folks rejoice, and folks without? beg the ones that do or something idk lol

in a shellnut discord media links are not permanent anymore, the media links are set to expire
they're only permanent in the original place the file was sent in
in other words, the media links i put in my descriptions, though working in my dms/servers, must be refreshed with new links to continue working for outside link use, although you can still download them from discord itself once the link is pasted again
