Research Log Entry (Subject - Singula, a.k.a. Lydia-Ω): In the effort of cataloguing other universes via the auto-dialer program, there is always the occasional call-back. Typically, this additional scrutiny is a result of further lessons learned, findings generated from subsequent surveys, or specific needs that require use of an indexed universe's specific features (conditions, materials, etc). Some get re-checked or re-visited because there's something about them I like (for instance, universe 6855313 has an excellent coffee bar that I've never seen duplicated anywhere else) or because the natural flow of time there can yield specific developments.
Then there was the observation from universe 3081012.
If was catalogued fairly early on, nothing terribly remarkable about it, average K-Factor, post-industrial (but not yet spacefaring) civilizations around the contact point. No unique resources or observations, so it was a matter of cataloguing and moving on.
Then, about two months ago, I started picking up some MASSIVE gravitational distortions, all across the spectrum from my some of my observer probes in several universes. It's interesting, when one universe gets jolted hard enough, it ripples across other 'adjacent' universes, kind of like the balls in a Newton's Cradle, even if it's not readily apparent to the inhabitants of those universes. Those ripples can be tracked back to their source, and in this case, lead back to '012.
It was easy to re-establish a link, since the parameters had all already been established, and start running scans. It didn't take long to start picking up that something was wrong. There were definite signs of interdimensional portal activity, not too unlike my own. However, my designs minimize the impact to the fabric of reality, akin to a scalpel cut and follow-up stitching. These ones were... brutal. Like someone just grabbed, tore, and let the wounds bleed afterwards. I was able to trace a course of residual portals across '012, which was disturbing in itself, but arguably worse was the similar trail of ruined, broken, or outright missing phenomena, ranging from simple land features to entire galaxies. Something BIG and something POWERFUL was wandering around this particular universe and just making themselves at home along the way.
It took another few weeks of surveys, probes, and scans before I started getting the impression that I was getting closer. The wounds and damage were fresher. I eventually found the remains of a planetary star system and was able to salvage the data module from a monitoring satellite that had formerly been orbiting around the second planet, and the attached imagery was one of the things captured.
It was me.
...not specifically 'me-me', but, well, you know what I mean.
After getting over the shock of seeing myself in a very dark mirror, I was able to piece a few things together.
- She's definitely not native to '013, but it currently has her interest, so that's where she's been spending time. Given some of the common readings from some of her portals, she generally always goes back to the same place, so I'm guessing that's her 'personal retreat'.
- From what I can tell, she's somehow merged herself with one (or possibly multiple?) black holes and can control gravity in a similar manner to me with my devices, meaning that she can alter reality to make herself relatively larger or smaller, seemingly without limit, or open portals between universes. Based on what I've seen, she COULD open them much more cleanly, but she just doesn't seem to care about leaving a mess.
- Per some of the recovered communications records, she goes by the term 'Singula' (fitting, given her apparent affinity for gravitational singularities). She just kind of... shows up, in a variety of scale. If a world/civilization/etc has something she wants, she just takes it. Sometimes she delivers ultimatums and demands (maybe she enjoys talking down to them?). Everything goes back to her domain, though from what I can tell, specific trophies of note end up locked away in spheres housed in her various jewelry.
- Sometimes she doesn't want anything and just destroys, in a variety of ways, ranging from casual to crude.
I'm declaring her a high-threat entity. I don't think she was aware of me following her efforts, but I broke off pursuit at that point. As much as I wish there was something I could do about her, at the moment, I'm out of my league, and the best I can do is cut off all contact with '013 and hope that she'll move on once she gets bored of things there. And also hope that, when she does move on, she doesn't come HERE. I'm looking at establishing a network of cross-universe scanners that keep watch for her particular brand of gravitational disruptions, kind of an early warning system of sorts, but I honestly don't know what I would do if she turned up at my doorstep.
Just another nightmare scenario to consider.
Awesome rendition of Singula, Lydia's much larger, much darker, alter-ego, as done by
T-Bone. be sure to fave the original here.
