Alright! So begins my testing out of uploading my non furry-related work. Hope people like it!
This piece is titled
Intimacy/Chair for Speed-dating
Medium: Interactive Sculpture
Materials: Wood, screws, glue, people
So this is a project I just finished for my sculptural forms class. The prompt was to create a chair with a phobia in mind, the chair must be assembled from other chairs that we must deconstruct.
The phobia I had in mind was fear of intimacy, and so I wanted to try to induce and represent that within the chair. In order for one to sit in the chair, there must be a sitter on the opposite seat to balance on the center bows. The backs of each chair also act as handholds for control and support. They also are very conducive to hugs.
Great for meeting new people!

Thanks! Yeah I couldn't have hoped for my classmates to react better than they did when I pulled them to sit for a demonstration. I'm planning on reinforcing it as it isn't 100% weight-bearing, at least not for much over two light sitters (and then sitting relatively gently. I found out I might have an interest in working with wood through this though :)
yeah, the chair provides enough space for two to be a good eight or ten inches away in the face. Especially if you aren't holding onto the chair-backs, in which case most have chosen to hold onto each other at the bicep. (Sidenote, my roommate broke one of the supports on the chair, so it's in the process of being fixed right now)
Cool. I wasn't sure because the way they're holding each other/the chair in the photo it looked like you had to do that or else you'd fall and therefore would not be able to see each other's faces.
Oy, fixies.
But yeah, I'm totally digging this. I want to see it used in a gallery setting or have people filmed on the street trying to use it. I think it would be really interesting to place this is different settings and get strangers to use it. Oh man, I wonder what would happen if you used this in the prison setting.
