Original Species: Golden Dragon
Golden Dragons are widely considered to be the single most formidable species of True Dragons. They prefer hot and dry areas on the border between tall mountains and wide-open grasslands. Their populations are focused mostly in the equatorial parts of Elysium and central Arcadia. While not as reclusive as Silver Dragons they still prefer to give a wide birth to humanoid settlements.
Golden Dragons typically carve out their dwellings on vertical cliff sides with their breath (more on that in a bit). This type of lair always overlooks an open grassland or scrubland inhabited by large herbivores. Due to its placement, very few intruders dare to disturb its dwellers; only wyverns and large birds can reach such a lair, and those can be easily dealt with.
The Golden Dragon's breath weapon is a focused beam of fire and radiant energy. Such a breath attack is hot enough to melt any type of rock, which as mentioned before is quite useful for creating caverns to live in. Typically it takes one adult dragon about 2 days to make a big enough lair using this method.
Golden Dragons, just like other True Dragons, typically breed every 5 to 7 years, producing a brood of 1 to 3 hatchlings with both parents equally involved in child-rearing. The young stay with their parents for a maximum of 10 years, helping with their younger siblings in the meantime, before they leave and attempt to find their own territory.
Golden Dragons rarely interact with kobolds. Due to their nesting habits, the dragons are mostly out of reach for the small reptilian folk who more often than not worship them from afar.
