The air was thinner so far above the ground, every step of the journey more laborious than the last, each breath was a conscious effort leaving her lungs beginning to feel ragged. Hardy moss sprouted forth from the cracks in the stone facade of the mountain face, fighting for survival and persevering despite the unforgiving conditions near the peak. A few stubborn trees cast their shade over the mountain pass, sparce foliage creating imperfect shadows. Wispy clouds drifted through the mountain tops like a low hanging fog, obscuring the path forward and the treacherous drop down. The journey upward had been a rigorous one, but the path was manageable, seemingly carved with intent in some places, but by whom or for what purpose was a mystery. As they grew ever closer to the peak the path leveled out and she was finally able to catch her breath. Looking out at the valley below, the view was breathtaking; a sea of lush green nestled between the mountains and the ocean.
Curious standing stones dotted the path; they had been difficult to spot at first, seeming as nothing more than uneven protrusions from the face of the cliffside, but appearing regularly enough that they could not be natural formations. She paused mid stride, and her companion soon followed suit, transfixed as the wispy clouds parted to reveal the face of a weather worn building carved into the very stone itself. An outcropping overhead protecting it from the elements and preserved it from the creeping decay of time. These ruins were doubtless ancient, a relic of some long since forgotten civilization, lost to the inexorable marching of time. A chill ran up her spine, the fur on her back standing on edge as she heard the confusing cacophony of countless whispers. She turned to meet her companion’s gaze and what she saw in his eyes told her without so much as a word that he had heard it too. The whispers filled her mind, growing louder and more persistent as they neared the ruins. Curiously once the initial unsettling feeling had passed, she did not fear the whispers; they seemed almost confused, frightened, adrift. An archway was cut into the side of the mountain, a forgotten pathway deep into the heart of the mountain flanked by columns and obscured by moss and leaves. The whispers that had flooded her mind grew more quiet as they approached, becoming a gentle hum of background noise, seemingly relieved that their eternal call might finally be answered.

Venturing to such places can be a dangerous prospect
The ancient stones and especially those that were built like a temple can be abandoned by living souls but sometimes gods and supernatural still linger in ruins like that
The names of them can be forgotten but they wait for their power to rise again
Threading carefully would be a wise choice but even wiser choice would be to quench thirst of curiocity in different place
But who knows... maybe there is a path to greatness here or something incredible. Sometimes risk is worthy option to gain some advantages
Interesting art. Love the contrast between somewhat bright scene and sunny place yet the strain and sense of thrill is in the air
Lovely art

This is a very wonderful illustration of Jaeger and Fiadh exploring these ancient ruins. Pauline certainly makes artworks that are truly beautiful. But also, I find myself fascinated in your short stories. The way that you describe landscapes is just so eloquent. I would totally read a longer story about your characters if you ever decided to make one. :)
That is so incredibly kind of you to say, I am always just floored when people say that they like my writing. To be honest, I often feel like I am being repetitive (I have a lot of landscape art at this point haha), but it really means that you and others like it <3 I have the start of so much lore in my head, it's just finding the motivation to get started, I sincerely appreciate it!
A lost city located between the high mountains with a breathtaking sight of the valley below, some intriguing ruins that have been there waiting to be explored for centuries or so, mysterious living souls wanting to communicate with their loud countless whispers, and then two curious fluffs. Both eternal adventurers often looking for supernatural places, and from some time they became great friends, Miss Fiadh and Jaeger the felkin. Are they going to get into some kind of trouble or will they be greeted friendly by those who have been whispering in their heads at each step closer to that lost place? My bet is.. all those voices have been there with a meaningful purpose, to tell their story and give answers to the fairy coyote and her felkin friend, before leaving this ancient place where they once belonged~ 😌🌿
This is such an amazing illustration! Both the background and the characters are drawn perfectly by Pauline again. Her artworks are always so detailed and beautiful. Especially the way she does certain sublime landscapes and shading effects! 🥰✨
