Just doodling around. i've used this bear before.
I believe I'm going through a significantly "pastel" phase at the moment.

Beein using a lot of illustrator recently, it's inhumanly clean! Looking at deconstructing it a bit and regaining the human feel to it.
Otherwise for filters, fiddly stuff, sketches and a painterly feel I punch my work through PhotoShop.
Just got Artrage recently and am horrified at the idea of using it....

Lol Illustrator?! REally? Craaaap, we're using that program in school right now, but all we're using for linework is the damn pen tool...is that what you're using? I wanna be able to draw with my tablet rather than the pen tool.
As for photoshop, I Ca't seem to get a painting-look with photoshop....then again I only use the airbrush tool in photoshop....what tool in photoshpo do you use?
And Artrage...LOL is it complicated or something? I've never heard of it, but surprised you'd be "horrified" at the thought of it. =P

Candy palettes are fun! And happy.
What kind of brushes are you using in AI these days for sinuous line-weight, by the way? I've been playing with the 'calligraphic' art brushes for something that needed outlines, and I found 'em really hard to control; the best results I get are with tapered art brushes and, well, tweaking lineweights manually.

Yay! Candy pallettes! Maybe I can use it to exorcise this insipid Chibi feeling I have writhing inside me!
I have been using the paintbrush tool, a 2pt circular brush with a pressure variation of 2pts. That way I get the nicely varied thickness in stroke on the tablet without it being ridiculously thick. I usually then remove excess bezier points, and play with the stroke dimensions to thin out overly heavy lines. Sounds about what you've been doing, no? I cannot control calligraphic strokes to my satisfaction either.
Lotsa love! xx

CHIBIMUTLEY!!!
Funny, I ended up with *exactly* the same brush when working on something for AG that needed the 'classic WB look'. I really, really wish AI let you change the pressure curve of a stroke after you laid it down!
I get the best calligraphic strokes by completely faking it, to be honest: pencil strokes with various art brushes, mostly a long triangle and an oval, both built at 1pt wide so the line weight matches the one set in the stroke palette. I discovered recently that Toon Boom Studio has a *great* variable-width vector brush, but you can't readily extract the paths from it.
