"Mowgli, many amongst Man such as yourself have fought long and hard to live amongst the untamed wilderness, innovating tirelessly to survive against the odds. Your father knew that since the moment he found you. I will help you master the power of Creation to its fullest but the choice to bear these jewels is your's alone."
-Tikki
"Growing up, Mowgli felt disconnected from the Jungle and the wolf pack that took him in. His family loved him unconditionally but it was a coin toss with other wolves. Some weren't very explicit about it but certainly had an unease to them when talking with him. Some were micro in their aggression but a small thorn prick was still a prick such as Daruka and his son, Phaona. Others like Lala were nearly comical in how they rubbed it in how different he was.
This didn't help that though he could live amongst the pack, he couldn't be counted as a member unless an explicit vote was held or if he gave a strong enough reason to the leader to include him. Lala was keen to abstain her vote, leaving most tied up tightly whenever Fluff took count. And Akela worried for the man-cub's more fragile physique compared to a wolf's more study build.
However, everything changed when Shere Khan returned from the shadows.
Akela announced that a training exersize would be held amongst the younger wolves whom Baloo and Bagheera were teaching how to hunt. They would go up against older wolves and see how they compare. Mowgli was able to enter in this once he proved himself with two rabbits and a bird he killed on his own utilizing his own self-made "Fang." Lala was too intrigue to not make a wager with him: catch more than her and she will be the tie breaker for the vote.
Tikki was observing the wolves for whoever could wield her power properly but had already been enamored by Mowgli's creativity. Furthermore, she saw it as a chance to redeem herself after fleeing from Alexander's brutal last stand with Shere Khan. It was the least she could do for her former Bearer. Though a part of her struggled in fearing that she'd do the same to Mowgli...
However, Tabaqui's akumatization into Savage Scavenger and seeing Mowgli risk a lot to help Chatte Noire prompted Tikki to make her final choice. Mowgli took up the torch his father once held and swung into action to give Chatte some much needed back-up. The enhancements to his natural strength made him feel like one of the Jungle at long last and gave birth to the confident Ladybug.
Though the battle distracted him and Lala from their kills being scavenged, Mowgli was allowed into the pack. Lala, surprisingly, spoke of him sticking his neck out to save the Cat Bearer (which she claims to have seen from afar) and smirked upon acknowledging Mowgli as "her brethren." This convinced those who had abstained their vote out of uncertainty to vouch for the man-cub's inclusion.
Though Akela wasn't fond of Plagg sneaking out behind his back, he conceded that a full-time partner for Mowgli would be able to back him up if worst came to worst. Mowgli certainly was glad at this as Chatte Noire was, erm, quite pleasing to the eye. At fourteen years old, the still shrill speaking young boy was learning other aspects of his manhood.
His identity was covered by how no one would consider the man-cub was a potential Bearer, even temporarily. The new Ladybug was but a wolf amongst their own. But how would they react to their hero's true identity?"
Been focusing on Chatte a lot to develop her out as a protagonist but I'd hardly hope to neglect Mowgli. I feel like his journey in the Anime was good but was a bit weird in areas in terms of the theme of belonging and what makes a human human. I hope to lean in to that with my story, especially in concert with Miraculous's.
Ladybug has a real cool theme about the masks were wear on our faces and on our hearts. Marinette is a klutz with major self-esteem issues while Ladybug is a confident young lady who can take charge of most situations. Adrien is a soft boy who's been sheltered a lot of his life and distant from his father while Chat Noir is loud, proud and unashamed with his truly terribly puns. Their new identities let parts of them come out or be hidden.
In today's age of secret identities going by the wayside, it's cool to do this trope justice.
