Finally getting round to posting this woo. But as I said in a journal I went to Emerald City Comic con last weekend and had both a good time and learned a lot.
Starting on the top right are two of my long time RL friends, gasp, who I have known since high school. Both currently live up in Washington so I drove up there to stay with them for the con. They went as Don Quixote with real armor, explained lower, and Sancho Panza. And there were even two people who I heard, could have been more I missed, who recognized them! So great success on that part.
But the armor itself, being real and semi old, was a real struggle. On the night before the con we pulled the armor out of a vineager bath and tried to apply an anti rust coating to it. Seemed to go pretty ok until it was taken off after day one where we found most of it, especially the breastplate interior and backplate, to be rusted badly. So that night we spent about two hours trying to clean and scrub it to try and improve its condition. The second image is from that time. It mostly worked but by night three the owner of the armor decided screw it and spray painted the inside of the armor with black rustoleum paint. Seemed to keep the rust off and so made the nights less tiring. I was shocked that the armor rusted like that though a thick gambeson but now I know I suppose. Impressive really.
In the third picture I found a fun group to hang around with several times throughout the fest, Amtgard! Who I learned have a few camps/kingdoms around where I live so I'll be looking into those when I return from FE as dang doing that fighting is a good workout! Also let me quickly learn the parts of Veskatt that would not last under stress. Mainly the feet and the teeth as the elastic wrap I had under my shoes to allow that foot thingy to fit on multiple shoes if needed gave me almost zero traction. And rather hard to defend yourself on your back. The Amtgard people were great sports about it thankfully. And the teeth, despite no headshots in the comp, did stick out and down a good bit from my face and so took several hits and started to fall out. So will be remaking those as well. Still a looooad of fun though and while its not theatrical like Drachenfest will be I will be hopefully doing that some more later on.
And the final image was just a fun photo op I didn't want to pass up of the biggest outfit I saw. I belive this was day three and I annoyinly forgot my bandana hat (or head diaper as a few people have called it so far :P ) this day so the ears were pretty loose. But something I need to keep on the lookout for!
On the whole as I said it was a very fun time and more importantly for the rest of the year for me a fantastic test of Veskatt. And while this upload is late I've been working with the family to make adjustments and remake parts of him. Which should be uploaded soon-ish.

Oh no! Vesk teeth falling out! :( Good thing healer can patch himself up!
It's a learning process, alright. These kinds of getup must be slightly more sturdy than pure cosplay ones, the latter are not usually meant to take kinds of stress at all. Very important note on the paw traction as well. As soon as there's an incline, you'll need some traction if you don't want to skitter-crawl on all fours.
Mask still looks amazing! :)

They were likely going to be replaced either way the central solid tooth with the line down it really didn't come together as well as I would have hoped it did. So doing them again seemed to have go better. We'll see if they last as well!
And ohh yeah. So much to learn and try to fix. And of course the ideas for 'the next one'. So I think I won't ever really be done with this. But hey thats fine with me its been a very fun process. Maybe try to make some armor in the break time between FE and Drachenfest. Try to expand my horizons a little! Maybe even try to make something like a Stormvermin type of thing. That would be fun. More smashy.
Thank you on the mask much Seer-Master <3
