Done by me! Gasp! Well me and me old timey English mother. Who is helping me learn how to use the sewing machine and needle and thread! Its a slow process but thankfully she is very patient.
Featuring as new/improved aspects from bottom to top compared to the Mark 1 version of the ratboi;
- Entirely new feet, the old ones were a fabric cover that we then ran elastic under front to back and side to side to keep it on. The idea was that this way I could slide other shoes in it if needed but it was very fragile and gave me next to no traction inside a building at ECCC. So outside for the LARP it would be even worse. So instead we took some shoes, pink ones to help in case something rips, and just started to glue fabric onto that while leaving the sole of the foot entirely uncovered. Hopefully to give more traction and hopefully make them more durable. The toes are wooden sticks to hopefully give the appearance of tendons under the 'flesh' and then the toes are makeup pads we glued to the end. They are mostly ok to walk in but I just need to take kind of flat steps. We will see how well they stay on I think at least one may break. The bandana material wrapped around them is just to give some more color (I though at least). We'll see how well they work!
- The pants are now much lower down the leg compared to where they were before. Not entirely like the comm of Vesk but they kept sliding down my leg throughout the day no matter how tight I made them. So this was more of a concession to the material. And because the shoes stop at the top of my foot them lower will also cover the connection between the pink and my leg a bit better.
- The tail now has two separate bandages on it, closer to the comm I got of the rat and I think spreading out the colors a bit more. The bottom on is white Gause while the upper is a more brown proper bandage.
- The medics satchel has gotten its bird! I had originally tried to contact some embroidery places near me to get the Cult of Shallya bird put on it properly but they either never called me back or informed me I would need to have an eight piece minimum order. Oh dear. Thankfully we were able to size and print the bird out on good quality paper and then glue it onto the satchel. I think it looks really good! The buckles on the satchel have also been filed a little as the arms of the buckles point right up on the main flap and I poked myself in the hand often when trying to hold onto it. Hopefully less of that now.
- The hands under the sleeves I am now using some hairbands to hopefully keep them snug under the sleeves as especially after hanging around with the Amtgard people I found the gloves themselves almost flying off my hand and out of the sleeves entirely. We shall see how well they hold.
- I am now actually using the fancy button with the cloth strap inside the sleeve to hold the sleeves of the arms up above my elbow. I really should have been using them before. This way they should hopefully not unroll themselves and stay where I want them too.
- To make the bandana look less like a 'head-diaper' as me mom kept calling it we cut up one of the other bandanas we had, thankfully they came in a pack of 5, into triangles to add some legs to the bandana. This is to try and simulate how it would actually look if you tied it up normally around your head. But it didn't before because of two main factors. The mask plus my large amount of hair made my head very large so it barely was able to reach around my head in the first place and otherwise we sewed the two holes going around the ears to the back so they would stay in place. So we added the extra parts afterwards to give that illusion.
- There is an extra strap on the straps of the mask that is from the middle back of my head down to the collar of the shirt with a small clamp. This will hopefully keep the mask more secure to my head and give it less chance to fall off. At least from the front. Thankfully my hair covers this rather well.
- Vesk has some new teeth! White foam this rather than painted black foam. This should hopefully mean less chipping and cracking and the front tooth has been split into two distinct teeth to give it a better general image. The teeth also go further back to give him more nibbles!
- As I dont have anything covering my eyes, as visibility is key when Im going to be wearing this potentially in 'battle', I wanted to try and add something to give the idea of the Skavens red glowing eyes. To this end I found some red sparkle glue and put it around the eyes. Its not a massive thing but a small addition that I hope comes across.
- Vesk has some whiskers now! This is a last minute addition to the mask and I'm unsure about them really. But they can always be removed if they dont work out.
- The mask now has Vesks face scar as well. Just some opposite side pink fabric that the feet, hands, and tail are made of to add some more color to the mask and some more character!
I think thats everything. I will be testing this in Canada this weekend at FE. And once this crazy month is done I will have maaaany days of nothing major to calm down and think. Try to think of what I want to do before Drachenfest. I think the reality of what I may be doing is started to dawn. Just got to be strong and try.
