It's a whole thing. The culture it's from is a closed practice, and even then you aren't supposed to say the creature's name (usually people call the actual creature an ice cannibal). Even then the version shown here and the pop culture version is waaaaay different than the actual culture's monster to the point it's a bastardization. I'm not indigenous myself but I have a lot of friends who are who taught me this stuff. There's a whole movement to rename the pop culture monster to deermen not sure what we'd call this critter though
It looks to me like this word itself is (or already became) a pop culture interpretation of that monster idea. If it has a real connection to the closed practice, then I don't understand how it became so known to the pop culture. That's why I also don't understand the point of banning it. Renaming will not change much, as well.
I used this word because it was the most popular-understanding and fitting creature idea to describe the design. Didn't mean to offend any real culture or person, of course.
I'm saying this as a person who doesn't have much information about prev said closed culture, and this is kind of a point.
Anyway, If this word can possibly offend someone just by being here, I'd rather change it to something different.

It became so pop culturized via colonization, it came from the native americans. A lot of their culture has been bastardized by us for centuries, another case of this is the thunder bird it's very sad how this happened. A lot of people don't know this I'm not blaming you or calling you a racist or anything I'm just trying to inform sorry if I came off as rude or mean
Don't worry, I was rather surprised after hearing about this kind of thing. Still don't think any kind of word-banning will work, but this is sad to hear someone's culture was badly bastardized. This is just how popularization works. People take something original and distort it to make it simplified and more understandable to the mass culture. The original thing still exists somewhere. But I have a small question.
If I really wanted to draw a monster inspired by this original culture (with information I can find) and referencing it, after knowing about all this, would I be a bad person? Or the problem would be just to call them that kind of name?
