A wonderful piece I was able to commission from 96caskets on Twitter/X to commemorate the final match of the wrestling icon Sting.
I honestly lost interest in professional wrestling for quite a few years after I stopped watching the WWE(World Wrestling Entertainment). A couple years ago I came across a newer wrestling company called AEW (All Elite Wrestling) and I got hooked all over again. In my honest opinion AEW is like the Attitude Era of the WWE on steroids. A lot more intense, more blood, more extremeness in general. You get to see heavyweights do moves like you’d normally see from high fliers and the high fliers do even more extreme moves off the ropes and whatnot.
A lot of former WWE superstars are currently on AEW including Chris Jericho, Christian Cage, and Edge, now Adam Copeland and recently got Mercedes Mone (formerly Sasha Banks in the WWE).
Eventually Sting came to AEW and teamed up with a man known as Darby Allen. Eventually Sting announced he was going to retire from wrestling and his last match was going to be at the PPV Revolution where he debuted, in the arena that made him the most famous. I got to watch that PPV and see his last match and it was epic. A truly spectacular tag team match with his partner Darby Allen with them as tag team champions and defending their titles against a tag team named The Young Bucks and Sting and Darby won so Sting got to retire as a champion.
The PPV was absolutely incredible in my opinion and an absolutely stellar way for for an icon to retire.
This piece was inspired my a shirt design commemorating Stings face paint in his early years (the green one) and his current face paint on the opposite side of the green.
The remaining areas under the green face paint are to represent the face paint that Darby Allen wears on half of his face.
A truly wonderful piece to commemorate a truly great tag team.
Sorry for the long story. I’m truly into this wrestling company that has an open doors policy with other companies like ROH (Ring of Honor) NJPW (New Japan Pro Wrestling) Impact Wrestling, AAA Mexico Wrestling and another Lucha Libre company called CMLL (Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre). This means that wrestlers from those companies can come to and compete in AEW and AEW wrestlers can go to and compete in those companies as well.
Hope you all enjoy this piece.

Thankies. It’s definitely very new when compared to how long other wrestling companies have been around, only like 4-5 years but every episode of Dynamite on Wednesday, Rampage on Friday and Collision on Saturday is chock full of action and very little talking. When they go to commercial during the match they use Picture in Picture so that you don’t miss most if not all of the action unlike in the WWE where the only way you get to see all the action in a match is if you’re there live. I can definitely say that as a former WWE fan and having been to a couple of WWE shows live. I recently gave WWE a shot and it wasn’t anywhere near as action packed as an AEW match m, not a lot of high flying from the heavyweights and the most extreme action I saw in the brief time was a few of the three competitors in the match getting slammed on the announcer table and it not breaking. The main thing that made me change the channel was when they went to commercial there was no Picture in Picture feature but hey, at least I gave it a shot.
If you tune in on this Wednesday you’ll get to see Adam Copeland take on Christian Cage (his former tag team partner from the WWE) for the TNT Championship in an I QUIT Match. Only way to win is to make your opponent say those two words, I QUIT!

It's been a minute since I watched any wrestling and I completely forgot they would show fights during the ads, that's was nice tbh
The few times I did go live I was shocked how much extra content you get during ad breaks, I think you could access those clips on the website but I actually don't remember lol

-nods- Yep. I’m glad that AEW differentiated themselves from the WWE with that feature. It wouldn’t be right to just stop the match in the middle just for a commercial break. I’m actually watching Collision from yesterday and the opening match was incredible. Bryan Danielson (Daniel Bryan in the WWE) vs Katsuyori Shibata and at one point it was a sit down slapfest, mostly on the chest. A total dream match and shows a lot of what normal pure wrestling is all about. I’ve even gotten to see some of AEW’s more extreme matches on their regular shows like one called Blood and Guts. (No actual guts shown) it’s essentially a hardcore match that takes two rings and a cage surrounding both. A take from the old WCW match called War Games with a bit of the WWE’s Royal Rumble rules for the entrances. Start with one member of each team for five minutes then whoever wins a coin toss gets the man advantage and a member of their team comes out first, then after two minutes a person for the opposing team comes out and so on until all the members of each team are out in the rings, then the actual match begins. Until then it’s basically a no holds barred match inside the rings. Th red match can only end in one of two ways.
A person taps out like in a submission hold or a person surrenders the match and that can be any member of the team.
One person was essentially getting hung with a chain and one of his teammates surrenders the match to basically save him. Definitely not for the weak of heart.

Yeah, definitely. Most matches are won within the time limit. Most matches have a limit of 20 minutes to make sure they get more action from others in the shows. One tag team match had a 60 minute limit and it almost went the full time. The match ended at the 58 minute mark but it was full of a lot of action.
holy crap they have daniel bryan too? i will have to see if i can watch that somehow cos that sounds kinda brutal lol
somehow i ended up watching luchadore stuff the other day flipping thru channels and it was equally ruthless, dudes slamming eachother into real broken glass, i can't imagine how youd fake that even if the match was thrown, ya know? idk i ought to get back into wrestling its always been a comfort tv thing for me oddly i just appreciate the over the top extreme theatrics these people go through for our entertainment and you get invested in the drama XD

Yep. They also have the former superstars Cesaro and Dean Ambrose now known in AEW as Claudio Castagnoli and John Moxely. They’re part of a group called the BCC (Blackpool Combat Club) and they’re very brutal. Lots of blood has been spilled by them and on them. Bryan Danielson is also part of the BCC as well.
I literally just did a quick youtube search before you even sent that and just watched a random recent fight to see what was up and my first thought was 'is that cisaro?' they really did just take a lot of the old guys and rename them, I will assume due to some type of copyright with the WWE, but it's interesting lol
Also what the hell do you think of the McMahon controversy, I'm still processing that shit because I'll be honest it hit me and my siblings for a curveball, we really looked up to those guys. I don't know how he was getting away with being evil the whole time it's still fucking with me tbh

I’m honestly not surprised too much. A lot happens behind the scenes that we don’t know about and is kept secret.
The best way I can think of to compare it to is Harvey Weinstein sexual harassment scandal in Hollywood a few years ago. They called it the ME TOO Movement.

I honestly don’t watch any of the other companies myself, just on occasion seeing one or more of their wrestlers showing up on AEW. Sometimes some confetti gets fired out of canons like when Sting and Darby Allen won the tag team championship.
I definitely can’t answer that question. That depends on the new people in charge like Triple H and Stephanie McMahon.

I actually got to be there for that once. I was in the back section high up and the heatwave reached me up there.
It was either during or just after the invasion era when WCW and ECW invaded the WWE. Rino was demanding a championship match from Commissioner William Regal and even challenged Kane for his international title.
I knew his pyro would be loud so I was plugging my ears in anticipation and the one moment when I didn’t have my ears plugged for an entrance his pyro hit with a loud boom and spooked me a bit and I laughed about it. The ring pyro was the one that the heatwave hit me the most.
One can only hope on that.
Just an fyi, AEW is on tonight for 3 hours combining dynamite and rampage together. Copeland vs Cage 3 with the TNT Championship on the line in an I Quit match. One whatever tv number is TBS for you.
