NECA Ultimate Armored Lost Predator Figure
This is the NECA Ultimate Armored Lost Predator figure. :) NECA released this figure as part of a line of figures celebrating the 30th anniversary of the film “Predator” (1987). This Predator may look unfamiliar to some, and that’s because he only made a very brief appearance on film as part of Greyback’s crew in the climax battle scene in “Predator 2” (1990).
A master of weapons, this mysterious mercenary of the Rogue Space Tribe was originally part of Greyback's old crew, the Lost Tribe, from which he took his name. After being tricked into a heist job with Spiked Tail and Lasershot on Yautja Prime, Lost was convicted as an accomplice to the theft of experimental Yautja technology, which included weapons and a spaceship.
Being pursued by the high council and their Enforcers, the trio used the stolen prototype ship to narrowly escape off-world. After his deception, Lost had no trust for his two new partners but conceded that it's the only tribe he can still hunt with and maintain his honor. Now with an advanced ship, they can travel through space and time to explore new systems, unlike any other Yautja, ever could. In addition to taking mercenary jobs from other alien races, they eventually became specialized in artificial intelligence hunts, expanding well past biological targets. Silent and tactical, Lost prefers solitude and brings much-needed order to the otherwise chaotic nature of his new crew.
We only really got to see Lost very briefly in the background of one scene in “Predator 2” (1990), so it’s hard to tell how true this figure is to how he appears in that scene, but if you go strictly by the picture on the front of the box, NECA nailed it.
The figure includes a variety of accessories, including three interchangeable heads, one of which features LED lit eyes (requires x2 LR521 watch batteries, which are included), two pairs of interchangeable hands, a sword, and a throwing disk. Not as many accessories as some of the other figures in the line, but he makes them work.
The articulation is mostly pretty good, but due to some of the gear on him, some of the articulation is a bit obstructed. You still get enough articulation to pull off a wide variety of action poses. As far as issues go, there are a few concerns. When you first get the figure out of the box, the joints are all extremely tight. I’ve heard that using a hairdryer on the joints or placing the figure in hot water can help loosen the joints, but I’ve never tested this. I just moved each joint around a bit until they loosen. The other concern is that the pegs on the hands are very fragile, and will break if you aren’t careful when swapping out the hands. Lastly, I don’t know if it’s just mine that has this problem or if all of the figures of this one does, but the LEDs have a habit of automatically switching on when you place the battery cover on the helmet, and the button that should turn the LEDs on/off won’t switch them off. Again, I don’t know if this is just something weird that mine does, or if it’s a problem with all of them, but I find that you can fix it if partially lift the battery cover. If you get this figure and the LEDs don’t turn on when you push the button, it’s because there’s a plastic tab between the batteries in the helmet that you have to remove first.
All in all, I absolutely LOVE the look of this figure. This is so far my favorite of these figures I’ve gotten! He looks awesome! If you’re just looking for a cool Predator figure to display, then by all means get him. He’s definitely worth having. :)
