No, I'm not trying to start a meme. I made this as a reply to somebody linking me a Hipster Kitty thing talking about hating Harry Potter XP
Possibly the main reason I did not keep writing 'Adventures of Lance' back in the day was because it was compared to Harry Potter. Which... didn't even make sense, all things considered, but it was still a major downer.
And that's that. Nothing else to see here. Please continue with your lives.

allow me to take a wild guess...you watched the movies and didn't bother with the books. or you tried to read the books but gave up half way or skipped half the chapters that didn't seem interesting to you. point being if harry potter didn't make sense to you then you did either of the above. hating harry potter for not making sense is a rather stupid reason to hate it when it was most likely your fault it didn't make sense in the first place.
The Harry Potter books got popular when I was starting to write my own stories which involved a wizard learning about magic, and a couple people started comparing my stories with that of Harry Potter. Pretty much stole my thunder. As such, my character Lance will always have a grudge because of that.
In reality, however, I actually sorta like the series. It's charming, it's adventurous, it grows up with you, and it's epic in its own regard. It's true that I've only watched the movies and haven't read the books, but that's because Rowling's writing style is... it's just... there's -something- about it that really rubs me the wrong way. I'm not fully sure of what it is.
That said, I understand that the movies aren't 100% accurate. Judging by the size of the books, I'm sure there are plenty of things that wasn't fit into the movies or shortcuts were made. When watching the movies I keep exactly that in mind and I won't hold the story itself wrong on the account that the movie wasn't able to do the books justice. I still enjoy the story, the feel of the world, and the interactions between characters.
.......Harry Potter as a character, though, I don't like. He's a spoiled little prick who's greatest strength is his friends rather than his own skill. I know that friendship is magic (har har), but heroes are supposed to be helped by companions, not be fully dependent on them. >>
TL;DR - My wizard character hates it while I like it. I'm not a fanboy, though =P
