SO last Friday I went in for an eye exam cause part of my vision randomly went away. Long story short, it was a partially detached retina and I went in for emergency eye surgery that night.
Eye surgery full of everything I never ever wanted to experience, like needles in my eye, while awake. And that eyelid speculum that keeps your eyes bulging open. Plus a nifty air bubble that now rests against the scarred up retinal tear that was the big bother in the first place.
I know it's a common surgery but it's not fun! Anyway, I am out of working condition for another 3 days, at least. Hopefully on Wednesday my doctor will give me the go ahead to keep my head upright.
Hope you like this story along with this charming photo. PS I am a girl.
Edit: The healing is coming along great, the blind spot in my vision is gone and the is very little pain in the eye. :3

That's... ugh, I can't even think about seeing a needle coming to my eye and not being able to do anything about it... I'd freak out XD
Well at least you're okay now, right?
Don't stare at the computer too long :( And get rest... and... idk, eat some chicken noodle soup or somethin >< lol I hope Wednesday goes well for you.

Set it myself, makeshift brace and buying opiates illegally for the pain. Had medical training in the merchant marine service, so i have basic knowledge. As for walking on it, have to do what you have to do in order to work and survive. If I could sit up for a month or two, probably could let it heal completely, but that's impossible.
Hmm I guess going to the ER would be that expensive, though the last break I had I just went to a doctor for sports injuries, I don' think it was that expensive, but I was still a kid and didn't pay attention the cost I suppose. Also illegal drugs usually aren't cheap, especially if you get caught with them. Anyways it good that its getting better, and hopefully there's no long term side effects.
Hope the same, and yes, was not keen on buying drugs black-market but I have a friend and live close to Mexico, so between the two, been fairly cheap and simple. In retrospect I should of just gone to Mexico for treatment but now that its been so long since the injury, not keen on having them look at it anymore.
Gyaaaah my eyes cry in sympathy. I have a fear of having that happen so the tiniest thing I run to the eye doctor to make sure I'm okay. =P Glad you caught it before it advanced farther, or you might have permanently lost vision though! *hug* Hope it heals fast!
And on the note of a previous question by someone, you don't necessarily have to do anything for that to happen...sometimes it just happens on its own. :/
You get to have the coolest look ever now! O_.

Oh my, that is a horrible surprise to have occur! A certain gold-hued-wolf artist friend of mine had similar random eye trauma happen to her not so long ago as well. I wish you a swift recovery and a good payment plan.
And you are a good looking girl! If you were not exactly who you were, I would have the pleasure of looking at your amazing art.

It would have to be a greatest fear of mine - loosing vision and having eye surgery. As long as it is healing and all is on the mend... it is a great outcome.
Your eyes allow us to see into your imagination... so it is beautiful to see such an important tool to your work back in order. Keep well there.

Ugh I feel for you girl X_c As a child I had to have 3 operations on my right eye (and behind it), its so damned uncomfortable. So glad they fixed the issue though, I could imagine getting a sudden blind spot could be extremely stressful D;
And mandatory AHHHHH MONSTER EYE! <3

My sister had this problem, unfortunately it only got worse D:
Hearing about the needles in the eye brought a nostalgic shudder that my sister enjoyed tormenting me with regardless of the unpleasantness of the situation :o
I hope you have better luck than she did and heal up 110%!

EEk, no fun. still... It could be worse.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6G95Fk6HtYI
But that's kinda what happened...only i had one fat needle to the side of the iris and two thins. Plus freeze burned sclera. Plus the bubble injected. :S
PLUS the awful metal tool used to shove my eye around for ten minutes during the retinal exam prior the surgery.
The dude in the vid had it easy. ;3

That depends on how clumsy one is. :p http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L4XH.....eature=related
I was given an injection of local anesthesia...into the eye. The procedure was still almost unbearable for squick factor alone. :c The next day I was given some steroid drops, thank heavens, because i was ready to claw out the eye from the discomfort. The drops worked like maaaagic. C:
Wow. Just.. wow. I take my hat off to you , i really do. I don't think I could stand having needles put in my eye for any reason. They would have to completely put me under to do that operation on me, and I'm a man who's known for scaring little old ladies into hiding just by walking down the street. (tru story)
Second, thirding, fourthing all the yipes. Have a good recovery!
As a critter who's been paranoid about this ever since finding out it can happen... When it actually does, it's gotta be really, really obvious, I assume? Like 'woah, stars and huge definitely-something-wrong-here blank spot?'

When I started seeing spots in my eyes I had to go in to have mine checked. Found out they were only floaters, but even then could be signs of the same thing. Fortunately for me it didn't turn out the same as it did for you but I can relate to how scary it can be. Just glad you caught it in time. Keep up the good work.
I was quite extremely lucky to be rather young (8) and on insurance when I had my eye surgeries <3 (lensectemy)- i got to be asleep, in fact, the entire time- and wouldn't dare do it any other way. The extra money for a hospital room and anesthetic is well worth it, but not always a viable option.
P.S.: did they make you wear that metal eye-cage-patch to keep you from rubbing it at night? I think that that's mostly a kid thing., but I have to ask. (I can say with certainty that you will know what i am talking about if they did, and be completely confused if they did not)
Retinal surgery is very complicated and dangerous. It's usually an opthamologist's last choice unless it's an emergency, which in your case certainly was. I'm glad they could restore that- usually if the retina detatched enough it cannot be salvaged. Congrats on a surgery well done, and heal up soon!!
I like the part where you say you're a girl. It was so random I had to laugh. And ow... I hope you heal up and nothing bad happens. I had a friend who got in a car accident and had major eye surgery like that and she wasn't allowed to even move her head for like a week or something or risk blindness. It was crazy. She's fine now though.
