Jun-Mei bristled at her mother's minimalizing of the incident. She'd never forgiven her for wanting to go to university in America instead of staying in China. "It's so dangerous over there," she'd wailed, "You'll get yourself killed!" It turned out her mother's prediction came true in a completely unexpected manner.

It had all happened so fast, she'd been walking, well stumbling, back to her dorm from a raging sorority party when she'd stumbled off the campus path and into the woods. It was dark, it was late, and she'd taken the drinking too much at an American college party idea seriously. She heard a noise, something snarl at her through the bushes, and ran for it. She didn't get a good look at it, not at first, but she could hear it chasing behind her, hissing and growling with each leap. In a panicked, intoxicated state, the unfortunate girl tripped, and she slipped, and she fell, and she rolled around just in time to see the creature leap at her with bared fangs.

It had been a whole story across campus, one of the exchange students getting mauled by the local wildlife tends to make the newspapers in a quiet college town, especially when it's something so... harmless? The doctor insisted it must have been a stray dog or a coyote given the amount of damage done, but Jun knew what she'd seen that night. The long ears, the massive paws, the flecks of drool and spittle dripping from that buck-toothed mouth that had dug nearly bone deep into her arm.

Her fellow students had been making memes about the so-called "Killer Bunny" for weeks when her parents called and said it was time to come home...
