Book 1: The Fear Ripper
Chapter 2: Two glimmers of hope
Part 7: Not the one, but one of both !
Calm returned as the crowd dispersed to resume their training, their day brightened following the Ashes performance. She was recovering from her emotions alongside Cynder, who had officially become her girlfriend. They looked at each other more intensely than ever and Ashes had never felt so good and connected with anyone. Plus, she was a super cool, glowing dragoness that she had admired from the start. The gray dragoness remembered the beginning of their meeting and the evolution of their relationship and that at that moment, she had no idea that she was in the presence of her future beloved for life. For their part, Flame, Spyro and Ember looked at them with great tenderness and joy.
“How long it took for them to let go!” Ember laughed knowing that Cynder didn't seem to have any restraint, but it was probably Ashes' side that shyness was blocking.
“Not as much as the two of us, right Flamy darling?” Spyro growled, looking intently at his love who felt hot sensations on his cheeks.
"Yes... But it only made our love stronger, my darling." Flame replied, nuzzling his beloved's neck.
"Okay, only you are left Ember." Sneered the purple dragon when he saw the pink dragoness blush.
"Pffm! It will be done in due time when I decide! I'm not an easy dragon!" She giggled, turning away and raising her head with the air of a spoiled princess, which in reality hid her ardent impatience to know the Spike who was waiting for her behind the mask.
The two males laughed while looking at her, knowing very well that she was giving herself a gender. Terrador walked towards the trio once he had come out of his thoughts about Ashes.
"Young dragons, remember why we are here. Time is not yet against us, but according to the chronicler, the dragon of fear must still power two more artifacts to achieve what he has agreed with this mysterious dragon lurking in the shadows." Terrador reminded Flame, Spyro and Ember, especially if they were planning to leave the next morning.
"Yes, that's right Master Terrador! Let's get set up boys." Which allowed Ember to dodge the subject of her future love.
The trio took their place in front of a mannequin each assigned to them, Flame placed between Ember and Spyro. Terrador was instead paying attention to the purple dragon who only had a few fire jets to defend himself, in addition to his physical abilities and placed himself behind Flame and Spyro.
"Spyro, concentrate. Remember the first time you used your fire power." Terrador explained while looking at Spyro.
"I remember that. Sparx and I had just arrived in your world shortly before we met Ignitus for the first time." Spyro began under the buzzing of the yellow dragonfly.
"Yes Sparx. We were having fun racing without realizing that this world was much more dangerous than what we had already faced. That's when monkeys came out of nowhere and we grabbed Sparx.” He continued, closing his eyes, clawing at the ground.
"Stay focused on this moment. What do you feel?" Terrador asked the purple dragon using the same method as with Ashes.
"Fear for the first time. Afraid that his monkeys will hurt Sparx right in front of me!" Smoke began to escape from his nostrils.
“And what did you do?” Finished Terrador, looking at him carefully.
“I screamed no and spewed the most powerful jet of fire I had ever done!” He opened his eyes and spat out a small jet of fire which did not reach the mannequin.
Annoyed Spyro hit the ground with the flat of one of his front paws, growling loudly. Even this method didn't work with the purple dragon. Cynder observed him from afar just in case, because she feared that another power would invade Spyro's heart: Dark Spyro born from eternal night. Apparently, even his dark power had been influenced by the loss of his powers. The purple-black dragoness told herself that it wasn't too bad. Flame looked at Spyro sadly and lovingly rubbed his head against his neck and chest, which calmed the purple dragon who hugged him.
"Thank you Flamy darling... Your presence does me a lot of good, you can't imagine how much..." Spyro sighs, licking his beloved's forehead.
“Oh yes, I have a vague idea my darling, because I feel the same thing since you came back into my life.” the red dragon moaned in comfort, letting himself be cuddled with love before continuing.
“Do it again darling, I know you can do it!” Flame finished, looking his other half in the eyes.
The dragon backed away from Spyro who got back into position while the earth sage remained silent watching them. The purple dragon flexed its legs as it stared at the mannequin and then at the red dragon with its heart. His heart rate increased a little and as he clenched his fangs, Spyro felt heat in his chest. The expression "declare one's flame" was no longer one due to the bond of the two dragons. The purple hero opened his mouth and spat out a stream that burned the surface of the dummy, but it wasn't enough. He jumped with joy looking at Flame who smiled at him.
“Did you see Flamy darling! I was almost there!” Spyro exclaimed as Flame started jumping with him.
“Yes, my darling! Don’t stop there!” Suggested Flame who was determined to stay by his side.
Terrador understood that Spyro was not driven by the same emotional drive as the Earth Sage or Ashes. It was something else. It was... love. Not being a good teacher in that regard, he could only trust Flame to help Spyro regain his former fire power to begin with, then one element after another. Terrador returned to Ashes and Cynder after nodding to the smaller red dragon who did the same, understanding that Spyro's teaching was in his clutches. Flame stuck his side to Spyro's by placing one of his wings on his back while the purple dragon did the same.
"Relax, my darling. We'll blow our fire together. Feel my side against yours. Breathe at my pace." The red dragon advised him, having an idea on how to approach his purple love.
"I feel it my darling and... it's very pleasant Flamy darling." Spyro replied, growling a little playfully.
"My darling, it's not really the time for that..." Flame replied, blushing, because certainly, it wasn't the time, but the burning desire to throw themselves on each other to be maximum physical contact was very present.
They felt each other's inner warmth thanks to their sides being pressed together and vibrations between grunts and purrs reverberated within them. Their love was of such strength that only the fact of being surrounded by so many people made them hold back from realizing a thousand thoughts. Spyro slid his snout close to Flame's ear and whispered.
"For our last night in private before the long journey that awaits us, you will be my bed until sunrise... Know Flamy with love, that seeing you as a teacher and giving me advice makes me... very boiling." A sound of grunting in addition to the hot breath on Flame's neck made the entire body of the red dragon suddenly tense, who had no idea how far his beloved intended to go this coming night. .
"S....Spyro...!!! You're not thinking... about that?!" He said without daring to pronounce the precise word that a couple did when their love was very ardent and intense, keeping his head straight, his muzzle pointing straight in front of him because it was even redder than his natural complexion, but looking sideways at his male who no longer seemed to be the same in these moments.
"Maybe so, maybe no..." Flame swallowed and a snap of his love's fangs made him emit a little yelp of surprise, shivering all over.
"S...Spyro!!! Let's not rush things...Let's focus on your training my love..." The red dragon began to take a step back.
Flame was not uncomfortable with this idea, because it was the love of his life who was tempting him in this way, but he feared that he would break down and take a liking to the enterprising side of the purple dragon who was further revealing in addition this part of him to his beloved. Spyro looked at him, both amused by his reserved reactions, making him adorable, and envious of being able to play with him by rolling on the ground like a couple in love. But Spyro calmed down and stared at the mannequin in concentration, wanting to make his beautiful red dragon proud who looked at him.
“Do you still agree that we blow together my beautiful Flamy?” The purple dragon asked with a frown, seeing out of the corner of his eye the one he admired.
"Of course my love! Tell me when you're ready!" The red dragon replied jovially.
"Thank you, sweetheart! Give me a few moments..." He breathed harder, leaning his side against Flame as much as possible and the two dragons looked at the mannequin.
Flame and Spyro were stuck together, their wings hugging each other's bodies so well that they could be mistaken for a dragon having a red and purple body with two heads and different wings. The two lovers instinctively closed their eyes in sync and remained motionless like that for several minutes. Terrador silently questioned what they were doing while Ashes and Cynder were intrigued and coaxed each other, beginning to recover from the recoil caused by the gray dragoness's attack. That's when Flame began to speak, followed immediately by Spyro.
"You and me..."
"...we are one."
At that precise moment, their bodies began to glow. Flame was surrounded by a purple halo of light, while Spyro glowed with an orange-red light. Terrador stood up, very surprised and amazed by what he saw, followed by Cynder and Ashes. Ember, who was on the training ground nearby, shielded her eyes with her wings and stepped back. The little dragonfly Sparx, always discreet, took refuge behind the wing of the pink dragoness.
“Uh guys...?” Called the pink dragoness without having an answer
"This light... It's...!!!" Started Terrador who turned his gaze in the direction where the temple of the sages was located, without seeing it.
Meanwhile, in the underground passages beneath the temple, the immense glowing red crystal saw its inner magic stir. The liquid that formed this power contained within began to flow from bottom to top, like a volcano ready to erupt. A huge beam of orange-red light burst from the top of the crystal and flew away, crossing the wall of the cave. Hunter had just returned from the hero market and had placed everything on the large round table in the elders' council room. A small tremor occurred and the beam passed through the table without damaging anything on it, before passing through the ceiling. Hunter stepped back in surprise, but understood where it came from and what it meant. He went out to see where the ancestral power was heading and set off running quickly thanks to his feline agility.
The light arced over the city like a giant rainbow and headed toward the training barracks. Terrador saw him before the light radiated Flame and Spyro who opened their eyes and spat out their jet of fire together without realizing what was happening. A jet of purple fire came out from between Flame's fangs, while Spyro's was red. The two flames began to merge to form a single red and purple jet, and the mannequin was charred on the spot as well as the wall behind it. The beam disappeared, leaving flame-shaped engravings on the scales of the two dragons, the same color of their respective jet. The entourage inside the arena remained speechless and silent, not at all expecting to be present for such a spectacle of ushering in a new fire sage, or rather in this case, two wise men of fire.
"What happened ?!" Spyro asked looking at the red fire symbols on his body.
"I...I don't know, my darling!" Flame replied, looking at his own which was the same purple as his beloved.
"You... You have become the new guardians of the fire!" Terrador was surprised, thinking that this would only change Spyro.
"Two fire guardians??!! This is impossible! You never said this could happen!" Asked Flame who was waiting for explanations.
"Indeed young dragon, because this is usually impossible... There has always been only one fire guardian at a time..." Terrador replied thoughtfully before smirking, coming from to understand.
“What makes you smile, Master Terrador?” Ashes asked questioningly.
“I understand everything the columnist told us now.” Terrador began, reviewing all the conversations in his head.
"You can give us a debriefing, because there has been so much information that I'm a little lost for my part" Ember confessed as she watched Terrador, Ashes and Cynder approach the new fire guardians.
"The chronicler told me that I must keep hope in you, order of Ignitus. And what could be better than having the two deserving dragons to be the new fire sages in this order?" He replied, lifting the veil on Ignitus' incomplete answers.
“He also said I wasn’t THE fire keeper!” Spyro remembered.
“Not THE one, but one of both!” Terrador replied, responding to Spyro.
The whole truth about this word "THE" had just taken on its full meaning and the group of heroes understood that Ignitus knew from the beginning who was going to become the sages of fire, leaving them enigmatic sentences to guide them without giving them the answer that 'they had to find out for themselves.
“Wowaowao not so fast!” Flame began to protest, waving his wings up and down to express that everything was going too fast for him.
"What's wrong Flame?" Cynder asked intrigued.
“I thought that to do this, you had to accept the oath and touch the crystal!” Flame replied annoyed, because he hadn't asked for anything and felt like he had been obliged.
"You were present when Spyro took the oath." A familiar voice replied from the roof of the military building.
Hunter had silently observed them and manifested himself by responding to Flame. He descended with such grace that there was no sound of impact as he landed on the ground. Ember smiled, happy to see the one who reassured her the most in this world. The Cheetas approached before continuing.
“Didn’t your heart accept the oath without you saying it, even if it wasn’t addressed to you?” Hunter asked looking at Flame.
"Well... Yes maybe... But what about the crystal?" Asked the red dragon.
"Flamy! Remember when we were in the underground cave and you comforted me? Our tails were intertwined and we tapped the crystal with them!" Replied Spyro who saw this as a sign of destiny and that no act was carried out by chance.
Terrador recalled this conversation with Ignitus in his head.
"But Ignitus, for this, this person must have accepted the oath of the sages and touched the ancestral crystal."
"Exactly my friend...Keep confident."
He came out of his thoughts and realized that Ignitus had appeared after the events of destiny had been sealed. The presence of Flame during the oath, the touch of the crystal when the red dragon comforted his beloved and finally the arrival of Ignitus when nothing could stop this from happening.
"Okay, I think I understand... But why did it go off when we were training just now?" Asked Flame not seeing what was special about this moment.
"I watched you young dragons and when I saw you, I thought I saw a single dragon. I don't know what you said to yourself, but it triggered something in you young dragon. Spyro's brave heart was ready to become a fire sage, all that was needed was for you to be Flame. It's done now." Terrador replied proudly, looking at the couple.
Flame understood the reasoning of the facts that brought them to this situation even if he flinched, not seeing himself at all up to being guardian of the fire compared to his beloved violet or Ignitus. He was brought out of his thoughts when a soft tongue licked his shoulder with a purple flame symbol. Spyro sat up, smiling.
“Purple suits your complexion very well, my darling Flamy.” The purple dragon smiled as Flame did the same.
“And you have red on your purple complexion, my darling.” Replied the red dragon totally in love.
Their flame symbols on their bodies disappeared when they stopped glowing, leaving only scales of the same shape with their natural color.
“Hey, when you use your power, your scales start to glow, it seems.” Ashes remarked, finding this magic fascinating.
"That's exactly it young Ashes." The wise man of the earth replied.
“Well, things are happening today!” Out of nowhere came the loud voice coming from General Mangall.
The white dragon had seen the scene and the group realized that the crowd surrounded them again, bowing, as if royalty had just introduced themselves. Flame and Spyro stood frozen, unsure of how to react.
"I believe your training is coming to an end Spyro and Flame, guardians of fire. Come, we need to announce it to Warfang." Terrador explained before moving towards the exit while the crowd straightened up and moved away.
The two dragons in love began to follow side by side the large green dragon followed by their friends and Hunter. They stared in intense awe before reaching the exit of the training arena. Another, much larger crowd crowded the streets surrounding the area, as all of Warfang had witnessed the beam of light and knew what it meant, even though no one had witnessed it until today. Terrador opened its wings to attract attention. In the first rows, at the bottom of the small stairs were the other two wise men, Cyril and Volteer.
"Warfang! The elders blessed us today with the revelation of the new wielder of the ancient power of fire... or should I say, the new guardians of fire, Spyro and his companion Flame!" Announced Terrador under the gazes surprised by this news.
The crowd cheered, bowing out of respect for the two new fire guardians while Terrador moved aside so that the two dragons in love were put forward, with their friends close to them. The sage of the earth looked at them proudly and continued.
“You are our two beacons of hope, young dragons.” He bowed in turn while Spyro and Flame looked at each other, not knowing how to react to this situation that he did not expect to see coming from Terrador.
They shrugged and did the same before everyone stood up and the guardians and their new fellow sages headed to the temples of the sages. Sparx, Ember, Hunter, Cynder and Ashes closely followed the loving couple while the crowd began to follow them as well, because a big party will surely take place that evening to celebrate the event.
Meanwhile, in an unknown and inaccessible dimension, a very large dragon watched the scene through a sort of vision sphere with a red halo. His reasoning and ancestral voice was heard in this immaterial plane of existence without light outside the reddish sphere in question, which reflected his two large violet eyes.
"Celebrate the appearance of his new fire sages... You'll need them to face Fear... and the others!"
Three other spheres of vision appeared, surrounding the immense dragon hidden in the shadows. Its other stones, offering views of the outside world, had different halo colors. One was greenish, another was a light, slightly bluish gray and the last was a very dark blue halo and black.
“Our time is fast approaching... Prepare yourselves... for the apocalypse!”
