it literly means "Blackface". it's what happened when the japanese wanted to look more like "California girls" with bleached hair and tan skin. of course, it's not a ganguro without bleached blonde hair. they typically wore light makeup that contrasted with their dep tans, but not always. the Yamanba fashion or "Mountain hag" took the style a step further and had girls slathering on obscene amounts of tanning creme, and wearing almost tribal makeup. they teased their hair and colored it wild colors basically to make a statement that they are infact individuals in a sterilized society.
in recent popular internet culture, ganguro has become synonomous with Corruption into a whore. while ganguros were originally seen as "Bad girls who break ALL THE RULES!!!" they weren't necessarily whores. while this IS a good picture, her hair color is wrong. this is not a ganguro. it's a combination of the ganguro makeup style and 70's prostitute fashion.

Yeah, it is only partially dyed to a chestnut rather than full blond. That's not completely unheard of, actually, even if it's not the full stereotyped look. In any case, the details were all to the customer's specifications, and I think it turned out well. I also did a "light skinned" version of this one, though it's less distinctive.
