I'm still deciding for sure what happens, but I'm thinking it will be similar to how Terastalization in my setting works, where they need the pawwear to retain their power in their body, otherwise it seeps out making them shrink down to a mortal height, to the point they could collapse from exhaustion and shrivel up.
