Aethra hands her daughter Dione the phone. "Who's theeere?", the little moth girl wants to know, with the person on the other end of the line responding: "Hello Dione, I'm... I'm Higeki's father. We decided we needed to call you, considering Higeki would bring you up a lot, so clearly, you two are friends." "Yes, we are. Why are you calling though? Why isn't Higeki herself calling?" "That's the thing... Higeki is sick. Like... badly sick. She doesn't have the energy to call you and tell you by herself." "I know where you live, Higeki told me that, I'll come visit!" "You can... You can do that.", Higeki's father states, though it's audible in his voice that whatever Higeki is having, it's nothing like a common cold or anything typically harmless like that.
So already on the same day because of caring a lot about her friend, Dione gets to Higeki's house at the beach. Higeki's parents let her inside, though don't greet her with a smile, as if they just can't smile right now. They lead her to Higeki's room where the young anthro seamoth is lying in her bed, all sick looking. Just seeing her like this... Dione feels incredible weight on her, it feels like death is literally already looming over her friend, as if succumbing to the disease may be inevitable. "Wh-What... What does she have? When will she get better?", Dione asks with worry, though after a bit of hesitation, the mother ends up letting her know: "She... won't get better, Dione. It's essentially in her genes." Higeki weakly turns to her insect friend and tells her: "Hey Dione... I... I gotta tell you something..." "Tell me then..." Higeki thinks about how to best phrase it but then ends up keeping it simple: "... Thank you. Thank you for being my friend, even if it really didn't get to last very long..." Dione cries a bit as she responds: "N-No... No... Thank you... You're the one to be thanked!... I don't want you to go..." But confirming what Dione could feel that day, Higeki is indeed dying not long after their friendship began.

This pretty much directly leads to the young Dione spending even more time at her home planet's sea. Just being there due to wanting to keep remembering her now deceased friend. But by being at this beach, with the view on Planet Hetrocera's vast ocean, Dione starts to think about how Higeki viewed all this water. She deemed it something beautiful. And especially now, Dione can acknowledge it too, there is something beautiful about the water extending even beyond the horizon. There is something beautiful about how filled with life that environment is and how much of it is still unable to be explored, giving an intruiging mystery to it all too. She can definitely thank Higeki for getting her to see all that.

On a separate occassion, Dione experiences for the first time how Hetrocera's inhabitants believe nature has a way of communicating with people, which is why it's become a thing in their culture to put up things similar to wind chimes in "Dodona Woodland", a forest full of gigantic skyscraper-sized trees, to hang from branches for the things to make sounds with the wind blowing, interpreting the sounds of that and of the rustling of the tree leaves as nature responding to them, even if they can't understand what nature would actually be saying to them, appreciating nature's response as something beautiful nonetheless.

Skipping ahead a couple of years, when Dione has become a teenager, the biological processes involved in growing up are naturally causing some issues. "I'm growing up, Mom! I get to stay away from home however late I want to!" "I'm just wanting to make sure you're safe, Dione." "Well, I don't care if I'm safe, I want to live!", the moody teen doesn't fully comprehend things from her caring mother's point of view, "There's people out there who are very willing to hurt you, Dione!", Aethra raises her voice from the stress of this argument, "And those people are just waiting for some little girl to walk alone late at night!" "I'M NOT A LITTLE GIRL ANYMORE!", Dione shouts angrily, "I'm a woman! I have my own life!" "And I'm your mother!", Aethra points out, "I gotta make sure that... you don't get hurt. At least have some company when walking around at night in the village or wherever you're going... I'm just... worried about you, you know? You mean so-" "Stop it!", the irrationally angry teenager moth interrupts her mother, "I'm growing up, someday I'll move out of this house, and guess what, there's nothing you can do to stop that! Someday I will leave just like Dad did... You never even told me why he isn't around, I bet YOU'RE the reason for it!" "That... is not fair...", Aethra remarks with some tears escaping her eyes. Hurtful things to say in the heat of an argument, though even if no accusations or insults are truly meant the way they're said, the arguments between those two still cause both of them to get hurt emotionally without fully recovering, the mother-daughter relationship getting worse over the course of Dione going through puberty, as the two keep getting further apart on an emotional level, something that seems to especially hurt Aethra, with the inevitability of eventually not having Dione around at all anymore when she stays true to what she told her, just moving away to never return again. After all, why would Dione even choose to visit her mother? It's not like she ever showed much appreciation for having Aethra in her life, especially in the more recent years.

As Dione becomes a young adult, she gets to be on a few other planets along with her best friend Coeus with him getting a license to fly a spaceship even before legally being an adult due to how far developed intellectually he already is. Through this, Dione experiences the soothing atmosphere of Planet Somnus, a planet with a surface covered with nature in mostly red and violet hues, some of the berries glowing in that red color and being just about everywhere to find. Though Dione remarks feeling like someone is watching them while they're there, but Coeus can assure her it's nothing to worry about, as that feeling simply comes from this planet's guardian named Phobetor. It is news to Dione that some planets even have guardian deities of any kind. Though she does find herself adoring how knowledgable Coeus is.
On a different occassion, thanks to Coeus and his spaceship, Dione also gets to see the very willingly hard working human-sized ant-like inhabitants of the Mining Planet Oreminia. This planet happens to have gravity just higher enough to make flying impossible for the two moths, though Coeus manages to easily change things about his spaceship to make it resist the stronger gravity here so that they can actually leave again. Dione can't help but be impressed by her best friend's capabilities.
The two of them also witness the mysterious vibes of Planet Othrys, a massive planet with a surface made out of halite aka a naturally occuring form of sodium chloride aka rock salt. From having read about it, Coeus leads Dione to a kind of pedestal with symbols on it, with 28 statues built in a circle with that pedestal at the center. Coeus then points out how two of those statues look... almost eerily similar to the two of them, with him having concluded that these statues are depicting 28 people to be named after Titans from Greek mythology. Coeus further states that his already highly advanced programs detected a form of life within this gigantic planet, though seemingly one that is currently "sleeping". He does note not having a good feeling about it, so he just hopes whatever is inside this planet never gets out of it. When Dione looks to three other particular ones among the 28 statues, specifically one that appears to be some kind of goblin as well as a Milotic and a Vaporeon, she has a weird feeling of Déjà vu... with Coeus's reaction to that being his inability to resist nerding out about the explanations and theories for that phenomenon, though Dione doesn't mind, in fact she finds it quite cute when he nerds out about something.
So many things she finds herself liking about him during all that. It's not much of a surprise, that over the course of Dione getting to experience the variety of locations in the universe together with Coeus, she ultimately start to discover developing feelings for him... unaware that she'll never get to confess it to him in this life.
