Curses are a fascinating and somewhat misunderstood and misrepresented category of magic. It's not truly 'malicious' intent that defines them, but rather the nature of the magical structures, and the stubborn, elusive and most often enduring properties of successfully cast curse tends to exhibit. Everyone knows how difficult it is to remove a curse after all.
It's why Tedd, a young budding mage picked 'curses' as the main focus of his studies. Of course, a surface level appraisal might conclude he picked them as part of his ongoing prank wars and competition between his partner-apprentice, and also their rival 'witch' counterpart grade-mates. But a deeper much less obvious motivation goes back to the abandoned lost child who seemed to have survived some sort of attack on his village, and drives him to do things such as curse himself to be immune to most physical force, resistant to harmful magic, and even able to survive without sustenance and breath for days, weeks at a time (that last one still a work in progress).
Tedd is a talented budding curse-master and transfiguration expert, a dabbler in very odd and strange projects, but he is careful and cautious in his experiments, something his Mentor is far from displeased with. Even if he is still just as concerned by the results as anyone else. Specifically the 'malleability' curse Tedd has just about 70% perfected. It's left him permanently just a few steps shy of being almost a 'flesh golem' with only the faintest trace of magic to betray his cursed nature. Or Rubber, depending on the stimuli he's under. Still working on making it a lasting effect on others, but even his current stage of development has caught eyes.
He and Caleb, his partner-apprentice with a focus on enchanting and making magic tools, form an odd amount of balance between them, at least able to provide the common sense the other lacks in their specific faults. For now though, Tedd helps Caleb research, theory-craft and build the spellwork he puts in his enchantments, and Caleb makes Tedd's piercings and rings that hold the spellwork he's still working on integrating into his personal curse-work. The main one currently being his ability to subside purely on magic, rather than food, water and air. It's a complicated curse to into his current core full-time, but he's optimistic he'll get it down within a few months at least, within a few years at most.
So
blueythebattlebug demanded I post my ref for this character, and between him writing a story involving him, and my post-scarcity again, might as well XD
Tedd of course started as a Trevor derivative, but is more or less a stand-alone character now, with a focus on magic of course, but also some niche kinks like inanimate TF, flattening, etc. Not like Trevor will stop getting those situations too, but Tedd is a more 'consistent canon' xD
